About this deal

Why has the obesity epidemic hit recently, when refined sugar and flour have been around for centuries? Allen Carr's Easyway method works by unravelling the brainwashing that leads us to desire the very thing that is harming us, meaning that we are freed from the addiction rather than merely restricting our behavior. I believe that TLCMoTU probably worked on me precisely because it repeats its message over and over, so that by the end I was getting quite tired of reading the same thing again, thinking: yeah, yeah, I know! However, the book highlights the illusory nature of these connections, emphasizing that the relief provided by the consumption of comfort foods is transient and ultimately leads to further emotional distress. Second update, 18 months after reading the book: 65 lbs down, and my life has changed in ways I could not have dreamed of.

Just as smokers associate cigarettes with stress relief or relaxation, emotional eaters link certain foods with comfort and satisfaction. In seeking to upgrade our eating habits, two key areas demand our attention: what we eat, and when we eat. Although many find that first experience unpleasant, the addictive nature of nicotine soon changes this. By following the method’s clear instructions, you can quit emotional eating without willpower or sacrifice. This is how after reading Allen Carr’s books, extreme nicotine addicts can go from hating all previous ‘cold-turkey’ attempts and ‘white knuckling’ episodes, to stopping suddenly without any cravings at all. Most of the world population rely heavily on these foods and are not overweight nor have problems with binge eating. Addiction is thus maintained by an ‘addict’ losing faith in themselves, as the decline into their excessive consumption takes hold.

The kind of food that most people would eat if they weren’t on a diet and had only a basic grasp of nutrition. This book could possibly be a helpful stepping off point for someone who has never thought about their emotional eating and never before considered that they have a problem until now. Any drink containing refined sugar but also, for some people, drinks containing concentrated levels of fruit (smoothies and juice) can also cause a problem with blood sugar levels (which is involved in ‘Bad Sugar’ and ‘Bad Carb’ addiction). We’re given candy for being good; there’s cake and chocolate on our birthday; we go to fast food restaurants on special occasions. I grew up with lots of self-help/ self-improvement books around the house, from my grandma's favorite How to Win Friends and Influence People and Chicken Soup for the Soul to my mom's Life's Little Instruction books and Seven Habits series. Someone with an emotional eating issue is going to reach for something fatty or sweet or salty (or a combination of those), whether they want to celebrate a special occasion or whether they want to console themselves for having lost out or been disappointed somehow. In 1983, after countless failed attempts to quit, he went from 60–100 cigarettes a day to zero without suffering withdrawal pangs, without using willpower, and without putting on weight.

I’ve never written a book review before but I literally cried after reading this book, I’m on the verge of tearing up again because in a matter of 6 and a half hours It’s helped me free myself from a lifetime of brainwashing around food. At the essence — we’ve all been brainwashed by the food industry and marketing to think that we enjoy these foodstuffs, so we should apply other brainwashing to convince ourselves we don’t. That means your food intake should vary – it should not be the same when you have a slow office day compared to a day when you go out hiking etc. This man had me like more scared then I was before reading the book about quitting emotional eating. It also makes A LOT of promises of feeling better – less bloated, more energetic, which I have to say – they do make me feel rather enthusiastic about the approach. If you regularly eat when you’re not truly hungry, choose unhealthy comfort foods, or eat beyond fullness, something is out of balance. Originally a stop-smoking method, its theories have since been applied to drinking, caffeine, gambling and sugar addictions, with incredible results.

We know that taking the first step can be difficult, but we’re here to answer your questions in complete confidence – with no pressure and no judgement. It is a way to change your eating habits, a way to convince yourself you can lose weight and become healthy and happy with your shape. Because of this, I’ve become more and more fond of buffets, particularly ones that serve meat, and sometimes I might stuff myself with meat almost to the point of painful discomfort “just because I can”.That might not seem much, but as long as you enjoy what you’re eating instead of junk – the weeks pass and the weight drops off. What Gene Heyman’s book made clear, however, is that there is something else that must be present for something to become addictive: an absence of natural satiety. The enthusiasm, the energy she gives to the sentences makes you feel the process the author wrote easy. But as the pages went on, it became clearer that the book was more so a regurgitation of what Carr had written previously, with just pieces of the language changed. Even though this book deals with food addiction, a lot of its text can be used to curtail other types of addiction and addictive behaviour.
