About this deal

Explorer was how it basically took an accord or emerging genre/style, one that had for a decade been the realm of high-end luxury niche fragrance purveyors or their clones and "democratized" it as the hoity-toity elites bemoaned, creating something everyone could reasonably enjoy without the stigma of buying a "clone brand" if such a thing was beneath their dignity. The fact Explorer cut loose the luxury fettering and paired down the style it emulated into something drier, and argubaly became something more versatile and approachable was not lost either, and Ultra Blue shows more exploration of that "DNA". The top notes are the usual juicy aquatic fare, with bergamot and our good old friend calone-1951 adding some fruity melon zing while the usual aquatic aromachemicals standardized since the 80's also enter the picture. The ozonic and salty zip of "sea notes" are boosted by hedione high-cis and ambroxan, referencing Acqua di Giò pour Homme by Giorgio Armani (1996) nicely. The base is pretty much cut and paste Explorer dry down, which is the core of akigalawood and sclarene (from clary sage) mixed with some ambrocenide woodiness. Ultra Blue doesn't go as heavy on the patchouli vibe and doesn't have any noticeable vetiver, but it smells like part of the Explorer family tree, which is something any decent flanker wants to achieve. Wear time is about 10 hours and projection is moderate, being best as a casual summer fling as per most aquatic marketing suggestions. It opens with a luminous and zesty celebration of Italian bergamot and citrus for a sweet yet energising start, enhanced by the spicy nuances of pink pepper for a fresh and spicy edge. The heart of the fragrance centres around a marine accord, which is as blue and aquatic as the depths of the ocean and as fresh as a sea breeze. This contrasts slightly with the addition of deep grey amber notes, which gives the scent a skin-like saltiness and warmth. Montblanc Explorer Ultra Blue Eau de Parfum comes from the noses of Antoine Maisondieu, Jordi Fernandez and Olivier Pescheux; it’s inspired by the fresh and blue world of nature, from the sky to the sea. It invites the wearer to embrace the spirit of the adventurer and embark on a unique fragrance journey that will awaken the senses and reconnect them with the beauty of the natural world.

Like the scent of the sea air carried on a wave of spice and fruits, Explorer Ultra Blue is a refreshing and invigorating scent that will captivate you and inspire you to reach new heights. Well, what can I say? Indeed, a strong blood orange which I was allowed to perceive before in no other fragrance. But so mega good as often described? I do not know. For me definitely not worth the money. I could have also cut open a grapefruit and spread it on my skin. Would have been in my opinion the same smell ... Well, there were two left. So I reached for the Cologne Bleu and sprayed it on. A typical drugstore freshness opening and already after a short time a clear similarity to the TuttiFrutti Invictus. For me, unfortunately, also a grab in the toilet? One was now so still left: Ultra Blue by MontBlancHowever, I think there's a reason why mineralic thing can't be completely mainstream, like ozonic thing. Ozonic perfumes make citrus brighter and more beautiful under certain conditions, but when it's not very hot, they also smell like cheap wipes. Likewise, Mineralic perfumes can give different experiences depending on the wearer, but sometimes it evokes horrible unpleasant memories for a person like me. I was born in a conscription country and had to be conscripted regardless of my will. Soldiers there disinfected always, whether was cleaning a camp or grooming equipment, with iodine solution. So the mineralic perfume is the smell of iodine solution used in the army for me. Whether it calls mineralic, marine or seaweed, whatever.

Nevertheless, Explorer Ultra Blue may be the first Mineralic perfume I'll buy. It scents more familiar and wearable than other perfumes with mineral notes to express the cold smell of the sea. it's more recent than Bvlgari Aqva. Nor is it overly sweet like Invictus Legend. It's definitely more masculine than D&G Light Blue Swimming In Lipari. It lasts longer than Valentino Born In Roma and has a little more clean feeling. But surely Ultra Blue won't be my most favorite perfume, and even if I buy it, it'll be time to sell at a discount store very cheaply. Sometimes others simply abbreviate these words as "Nothing Special", but I thought this perfume was pretty good than "Nothing Special". That's because It have made the kind of smell what I hate as acceptable as possible. If you’re familiar with the original Montblanc Explorer, then you’ll fondly recognise the cyclical design, except here, it’s been updated to an ultramarine blue to reflect the fresh sea-vibes of the scent within The silver lid is weighted, while the blue juice shines through the heavy glass; it’s a statement piece for sure. When I arrived, the new Light Blue already jumped into my eyes, because it was pictured in the shop window. Since my little heart made a jump and I went without further into the store. I was impressed with the longevity of Explorer Ultra Blue; the sea-like saltiness lingered on my skin for a long time after spritzing. On my test plan were 3 scents: Light Blue Forever (with the supposedly awesome smelling blood orange), MontBlanc Ultra Blue and Cologne Bleu by YSL.... I think you now know what kind of droughts I go for ;)

I was quite looking forward to it even before it was released. I tested it on my skin yesterday and also brought a scented paper. Now I have to say that it is a thorough mainstream aquatic perfume but not boring. Explorer Ultra Blue can still be included in the same category with Sauvage, Y, or so, but it is not a shower gel type, rather a perfume with marine mineral elements such as Bvlgari Aqva, D&G LB Swimming In Lipari, or Invictus Legend. Do you want to experience the freshness of the sea air and immerse yourself in the uplifting and invigorating feeling of sea-salty skin on a hot summer’s day? If so, you’ll love Montblanc Explorer Ultra Blue; it’s an aquatic fragrance that blends citrus tones with marine accords and woods for a unique aroma inspired by nature. Intrigued? Read on to find out more… On the net and on YouTube increasingly heard negative, which is why I had no high expectations of the fragrance. The base notes have been selected to transport the senses to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia as the finest quality, exclusive note of patchouli provides a green earthiness to wrap up the scent, with the inclusion of wood to keep it balanced and grounded. Montblanc Explorer I found a solid fragrance, even if this has similarities with Aventus. In 2021 it was finally time for another Mont Blanc Explorer. My expectations were here a further development of the already known and solid Explorer DNA. Explorer Ultra Blue, however, managed to disappoint across the board. Of course, I was aware here that it is not a 200€ perfume. For me, it does not always have to be niche, but Explorer Ultra Blue smells for me like the 5€ perfumes which there are always offer at the drugstores.

Ethical sourcing is a priority for Montblanc, which is why the main ingredients for this scent come from Givaudan’s Sourcing for Shared Value program. PS 2: If it's the same price range, of course ADG Profondo is much better. However, if the price of Explorer Ultra Blue goes down to 1/3 of Profondo, the evaluation will be different. Explorer Ultra Blue is marketed for men and it is definitely a masculine-edged scent; however, I love the fresh citrusy and aquatic vibes of the fragrance. It would be one I would wear if I wanted to feel fresh and suave, so I definitely think it’s universally appealing. PS 1: Very little resemblance to Explorer original. The original wasn't even a literally original anyway, you know, so please stop your hasty expectations about Ultra Blue. When the Eau de Parfum settles on the skin and gives way to the fruity notes, Explorer Ultra Blue reminds me of how your skin smells after a day at the beach. Slightly salty, fresh and reminiscent of the sea waves.
