About this deal

Vivo's FunTouch UI, which runs on top of Android 12, has been criticized for being bloated and heavy, and while it still is on the X80 Pro 5G, it's going in the right direction with a clean look and feel. There are nevertheless plenty of customizations to the UI, from the multitasking screen to the way you can deploy widgets. This level of customization invites performance issues, and while we didn't experience too many – the only one being a slight delay on receiving notifications versus an iPhone, for example, experiences online have been inconsistent. Given the similar price you might be wondering whether to buy the Vivo X80 Pro or the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. We can’t answer that definitely until we’ve reviewed the Vivo X80 Pro, but we can compare the specs. While this review isn't the place for a debate on the impact of beauty filters on self-image, we're certainly not fans of them being on by default, and wish they were opt in, not opt out. Thankfully, though, you can dial down the beauty mode, which is a saving grace. All data is based on vivo's technical design parameters, laboratory test results and supplier test data. Actual performance may vary depending on software version, specific test environment and phone model. All comparisons refer to vivo products only. Inspired by the look of professional cameras, the square and circle aesthetic that forms the lens and base is incorporated within the exterior design concept of X80 Pro, to remind of the X series' professional photography capabilities. By encasing the lens within a circle motif, the visual design invites users to see the world through the camera and highlights the Professional Imaging power of ZEISS.

X80 Pro introduces new upgrades enabling enjoyable and immersive gaming experiences. The smartphone is equipped with a large X-Axis Linear Motor, supported by vivo' s self-developed vibration algorithm that allows for quiet but powerful scene-based vibration. X80 Pro's response speed on start-stop time, has increased by 20% with more vivid vibration for a more enjoyable gaming experience. On that front, the Vivo has an advantage in a few areas, with a slightly faster chipset than the UK version of the S22 Ultra (though the same one as US models), plus faster charging whether wired or wireless.

How good are the vivo X80 Pro’s cameras?

The main camera does a great job of capturing a shallow depth of field when photographing close-up objects up to around 1.5m away – impressive for a smartphone. While the 50mm lens is there for portraits, therefore, the main camera also does an impressive job of capturing faces.

Integrated with ZEISS co-engineered professional imaging system and superior flagship performances to enable users to find their perfect shot The Vivo X80 Pro 5G is one of the best camera phones of 2022, and now it's been officially announced for Europe, with UK availability from July 7, it should be a serious consideration if available in your region.

What about performance and battery life?

Snapdragon is a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries. Snapdragon is a trademark or registered trademark of Qualcomm Incorporated.

The rest of the phone doesn't disappoint either. Sure, there's a heavy-handed interface, but if you can get used to that, and we did, the X80 Pro's powerful, has a brilliant screen, good enough battery life, and very fast charging – both wired and wireless. Alternatives n1 (2100) , n2 (1900 PCS) , n3 (1800) , n5 (850) , n7 (2600) , n8 (900) , n12 (700) , n20 (800) , n28b (700) , n28a (700) , n38 (2600) , n40 (2300) , n41 (2500) , n66 (1700) , n77 (3700) , n78 (3500) By default, the screen refresh rate is set to Smart Switch mode where the refresh rate changes automatically to suit different user scenarios and reduce energy consumption. You can choose between Smart Switch, 60Hz or 120Hz modes in the system settings. In certain gaming scenarios, the sampling rate can go up to 240Hz. In different applications or game interfaces, the screen refresh rate and touch sampling rate may be slightly different. Some certain applications or game interfaces may be only supported by 60Hz due to reasons like compatibility. X80 Pro is equipped with vivo standard charger (FlashCharge adapter 20V / 4A), and supports up to 80W.The Wireless FlashCharge supports up to 50W. The actual charging power is dynamically adjusted as the scene changes, and subject to actual use. Detail from the main camera is also strong, and while processing is heavy-handed at times, with aggressive sharpening, they nevertheless look pleasing and are information-rich enough to crop into by around three times. The X80 Pro 5G isn't affordable and it isn't perfect, but it's a very good camera phone that's stylish, premium, and feature-rich. Its camera system is one of the most complete solutions available thanks to no real weak links. The main camera is strong, the telephoto comes in a close second, and the periscope and autofocusing ultra-wide camera both bolster the system with fair to good performance for the most part. In addition, new effects, such as the ZEISS Cinematic Style Bokeh, have been added to the ZEISS Superb Portrait feature, enabling users to recreate classic Hollywood aesthetics by adding a film-like bokeh effect with a 2.39:1 widescreen aspect ratio combined with artistic long oval bokeh, similar to ZEISS Cinematic Video Bokeh. The overall effects can also be enhanced with vivo's cinematic lens simulation algorithm and a dual-camera depth-of-field technology that combines flare rendering and processing. By recognising highlight points, the brightest point in the picture is identified and artistic blue light trails can be created, similar to the blue streak in cinema lenses. Designed with the consumer's needs in mind, the new X80 Pro has significant battery upgrades that can accommodate the lifestyles of all users. The X80 Pro supports 80W FlashCharge, while also supporting 50W wireless FlashCharge with a large 4700 mAh battery. With such a sizeable battery, X80 Pro can get a full charge in just 36 minutes. The Vivo X80 Pro’s quad-camera introduces Sony's large IMX 866 1/1.3" sensor on the primary camera. With an f/1.6 lens matched with OIS, this is one of the best-specced main cameras of any phone we've tested.

Selfies captured on the Vivo X80 Pro 5G a bit of a travesty as far as we're concerned. Vivo's beauty filters are active by default and are far too heavy-handed, totally distorting reality. X80 Pro has a 32MP front camera and a rear four-camera system consisting of a 50MP ultra-sensing camera with GNV sensor and optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 48MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP gimbal portrait camera, and an 8MP periscope camera. The 12MP gimbal portrait camera is the core upgrade that allows for video enhancement and stability, while X80 Pro's main camera also includes an exclusively customised 'ultra-sensing' GNV sensor to optimise reflectivity and reduce stray light paired with a High Transmittance Glass Lens for low dispersion and temperature drift to reduce glaring. The X80 Pro Dual Stereo Speaker along with its powerful bass provides a balanced and improved overall sound effect, bringing dual speakers to vivo X series in the UK for the first time. The Vivo X80 Pro experience feels special before you even get to the phone. Open the box and in addition to one very sleek-looking smartphone which we'll come onto, there's the best-looking case we've ever seen included with a phone. Complete with faux-leather texturing. Instantly – this made a great first impression. If the Sony Xperia 1 IV is an enthusiast's camera phone that alienates more casual photographers, the Vivo X80 Pro 5G is a great middle-ground that automates most setting but gives users a lot of control over their imaging.vivo' s groundbreaking technologies in mobile photography and top performance make X80 Pro a powerhouse device designed with an understanding of user's requirements.
