Find the Right Words (FEBRUARY) - Upstairs at the Western - Leicester

Created and compered by JESS GREEN, Find the Right Words is now firmly established as one of Leicester’s best spoken word and rap nights, which includes two nationally acclaimed headline acts, ten open mic spots (sign ups from 7.00pm) and the increasingly sought after speed poet spot. The show was nominated for the SABOTEUR AWARDS in 2018 and Jess won the BBC EDINBURGH FRINGE SLAM the same year. With the support of the never knowingly mainstream BURNING EYE BOOKS, Jess makes sure you get to hear the UK’s top performance poets making the biggest noise in spoken word. The headliners this month are:-CLIVE BIRNIE – Poet, visual poet, text-artist and print maker, working at a place where poetry and art collide. His experimental poetry pamphlet Palimpsest, has just been published by Verve Poetry Press. His mixed media monoprint the Ghosts of Tiananmen Square was included in the Evolver Prize 2019 exhibition at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery.LOUISE FAZACKERLEY – Wigan-based writer and performer, who has been hailed by poets ranging from Ian McMillan to Attila the Stockbroker, and is one of the most engaging and accessible spoken word artists in the UK. Love Is A Battlefield is the result of a New Voices commission from Radio 3’s The Verb. It addresses the after-effects of war on the lives of soldiers, and features musical backing from Lee Affen.£8/£6
