About this deal

The pretty teal color is very calming and reminiscent of the sea, which—surprise!—is where we’re heading, so I think it’s all very thematic and on-brand. Defy the Night was one of my favorite YA reads of 2022, so I was super excited to read Defend the Dawn this year, unfortunately though... this was just nowhere near how good Defy the Night was. This was just absolutely EVERYTHING!!! I just loved each and every second I was reading this book! Literally flew through it like it was nothing! It was addicting, captivating and interesting throughout it all!! This series deserves so much more hype! I don’t get how people aren’t gushing about it on booktok?!?! Like it’s AMAZING!!!

Return to a land of royal intrigue, adventure and romance in Brigid Kemmerer’s sequel to Defy the Night — Defend the Dawn. Meanwhile in Kandala, Harristan is dethroned and on the run. He’s struggling to unite the rebels in his fractured kingdom, but he finds support—and maybe more—in unexpected places. The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own. More information

This could be their only chance to keep the peace and bring relief to the people of Kandala, but danger strikes during the journey to Ostriary, and no one is who they seemed to be. . . This was a super enjoyable read + a great sequel!! 🤩🤩 Super enjoyable writing, plot and romance 💙💙🫶🫶The writing and plot were great in this book!! 🤩🤩 I really enjoy Brigid Kemmerer's writing- it has depth but at the same time it's so easy to read! Like, it's literally a political fantasy and yet it's so bingeable?! 🤭🤭 The plot was super interesting- lots of action, particularly at the end, which I really enjoyed. Even in the parts without action, it was still so interesting 🫶 This series does have a decent amount of politics but it isn't hard to understand *thankfully*. His side of the story carried this book for me! I really hope that we will see even more development of his character in the last book! I need more of his POVs!!

And what were all those boring chapters in Harristan’s POV? They were totally random and sooo boring. Tendremos un cambio de escenario más que necesario, con ello la autora le da más vida y posibilidades a este mundo tan increíble que ha creado, donde una pandemia asola todo el reino. It seems like Lochlan leading the rebels and he still doesn’t believe king’s intentions to deliver medicine equally.

The plot, the romance, the main characters, the side characters, the world… just everything was sooooo well done!! The writing was also once again amazing! Brigid Kemmerer is a true genius. She just knows how to write incredible YA, fantasy books!! Arghhhhhhhh! Oh my goodness! I’m screaming!!! This is not fair! That cliffhanger tore my heart apart! I need to know what’s gonna happen next! How will survive without knowing my favorite characters are safe and sound! the overall storyline is so nearly wrapped up by the end of ‘defy the night’ that i was curious how everything would progress. and, while i did enjoy this book, i do think its no where near as good as its predecessor. and im so worried that this is going to fall under the same demise that the cursebreakers series did, where the second and third books feel separate/detached from the first book. I really need to get better at figuring out what is a trilogy or a duology because, once again, I played myself thinking two books was it. I’d say the first part was definitely giving me stronger bridge-book vibes—it took a while for anything to get started—but I was much more invested in the second half, and by the time that ending rolled around (Gah! No! Why?!) I was ready to dive into the next book (if only…).

GOODNESS WHERE TO BEGIN. Brigid Kemmerer seriously just never lets me down. She continuously delivers on all the tropes I love and is just *clenches fist* SO good at the angst and the tension and the romance and the twisty turny plots!!! What I loved most about this book, was finding out so much more about Harristan! I loved him already in book 1 but I FELL in love with him in this one! He‘s most definitely my favourite character in the series and I NEED more of him!! His POVs were everything and finding out all about his secrets and what has been going on in his mind was everything!!

Brigid Kemmerer has woven her compelling heroine into a kinetic tale of the tension between duty, love and trust.” ― Cassandra Clare, #1 New York Times bestselling author of THE LAST HOURS on DEFY THE NIGHT Advisory: Violence, injury and fighting, blood, healing, war injuries, death. Sexual references, comments and innuendo made about sexual relationships. Defend the Dawn is the second book in the Defy the Night series and all I can say is I definitely need book 3, right now. Talk about a cliffhanger of an ending. Maybe Brigid Kemmerer should have just cut out any attempts to make it a fantasy and just be a romance with very complex characters, because that’s basically what this book is anyways.
