Breaking Bad's excellence has to do with being the right length and being written all the way through with a keen eye. Even though Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have shorter runs than many shows, they reward rewatching. Fans can always spot new easter eggs in either show when they watch them again. But there’s a finality to it, character-wise and job-wise and life-wise.”Notably, each season of Better Call Saul begins with a Breaking Bad epilogue, in which we see Saul lying low as an employee at a Cinnabon in Omaha, Nebraska (as he promised he would go to in Breaking Bad). The most recent flash forward, seen at the beginning of Better Call Saul season 5, shows Saul deciding to take a serious matter into his own hands — and in a way, returning to the old Saul we know and love (So much for lying low).

One of the greatest joys in Breaking Bad is just how much Walter has transformed since the show's first season. Walt reaches a point where he won't let anyone get in his way, and he's willing to poison a child. Long before then, he has tremendous reservations about his first kill. Some of Better Call Saul's ties to Breaking Bad are outright continuity nods. Characters return, and plot points from one show feed into another. However, some are more metaphorical and thematic. Throughout Breaking Bad, Hector Salamanca's refusal to look Gus Fring in the eye is a major part of their relationship.

Fabian only learnt the nature of Howard’s end in the scripts with the rest of the cast, saying it was co-star Seehorn who called him when the episode dropped for the actors to read. Sadly, Howard’s row with Jimmy and Kim was interrupted by Lalo, who also arrived to discuss matters only to find the HHM partner there.It was funny to see El Camino debut on Netflix, and not the place where the series originally aired (AMC), but it was a testament to the fact that Breaking Bad found its popularity on Netflix. Word of mouth about the show drove people to watch older episodes on Netflix before waiting for the new seasons to air on AMC. Howard had unexpectedly turned up at Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) and Kim Wexler’s (Rhea Seehorn) house to confront them about their revenge plot against him.

Thirteen characters from Breaking Bad appear in El Camino: Jesse Pinkman, Mike Ehrmantraut, Badger, Skinny Pete, SAC Ramey, Old Joe, Todd Alquist, Ed Galbraith, Diane Pinkman, Adam Pinkman, Kenny, Walter White and Jane Margolis. Seven characters from Better Call Saul also appear: White, Pinkman, Ehrmantraut, Galbraith, Suzanne Ericsen, Clarence, and a police officer played by Simon Drobik. Todd's apartment is not far from the intersection of Holly Avenue and Arroz Lane. Holly is the name of the daughter of Walter and Skyler, but it is also the name of the companion of Vince Gilligan, whose name is Rice, Arroz in Spanish. This complete box set, meanwhile, has the usual making-of featurettes and commentaries, which largely focus on the dull mechanics of making the key episodes, rather than providing any insight, as well as the slightly irritating and widely leaked "alternative ending", suggesting it was all a bad dream by Cranston's Malcolm in the Middle character, Hal.
