The tacticals are another interesting one. A lot of people now swear by 5 man interssessor squads with the 2 wounds and extra range being useful. I would give you another perspective though and point out that, as you well know since you're not new to 40k, there's a fair amount of 2 and d3 damage weapons about now and with every Primaris marine lost the unit loses some of its punch..a full 10 man tactical squad however puts out a fair amount of firepower against infantry in rapid fire range (which is where I generally plan to try and keep mine) but maintaining that requires some serious planning ahead. Like the new Start Collecting: Chaos Space Marines box, it’s a bit hard to evaluate this one effectively because it’s currently the only place to get Suppressors, which are an insanely good unit for Iron Hands and, to a lesser extent, Imperial Fists armies. That said, everything in this box except the Lieutenant is a solid addition to a competitive Space Marines army, and even the Lieutenant is serviceable in a pinch. Even if you could get Suppressors somewhere else, this box would still be an incredibly good value based on what’s in it. One is that you can really show off the cool concept you came up for your custom chapter in the game. The second is that if you are a bit more on the tournament side of things, you can ‘hop’ from supplement to supplement, changing chapter tactics until you find the most gamey combo possible. The Vanguard Space Marines, introduced to both the tabletop game and Warhammer 40k lore in the 2019 Shadowspear box set, are a specialised sub-set of the Primaris Space Marines, kitted out for covert operations, stealth, sabotage, and reconnaissance.

About half of these models will be available in the new Warhammer 40k Starter Sets for 10th edition; the Ultimate Starter Set contains the Captain, Librarian, Terminators, and five Infernus marines, and constitutes the new Space Marines Combat Patrol. So I’m clumping both of these together because they are pretty much stripped down versions of DI box. Like the larger box they are both good to start with. First strike technically has no legal units in it though, so if you can spring for DI or Know No Fear instead, go for those. Alternative Option: Start Collecting! Primaris Space WolvesThe Adepta Sororitas Combat Patrol Box is weird: There’s 1 Penitent Engine instead of the two that usually come in a box, 4 Sisters Repentia and 1 Repentia Superior rather than the 9 and a Superior you usually get, 3 Arco-Flagellants rather than the usual 9 and… you get the picture. This is all because most of the stuff in the box was originally part of the Adepta Sororitas limited army set, and is thus placed on the same sprues rather than being the actual multipart plastic kits, so you shouldn’t buy this box if you have a specific 2000 points competitive list in mind. Was macht die Vanguard Space Marines so besonders? Gemäß den Spielregeln dürfen die in diesem Set enthaltenen Einheiten während der Aufstellung praktisch überall auf dem Schlachtfeld positioniert werden, so lange die Aufstellung mindestens 9" entfernt von feindlichen Einheiten erfolgt. Damit ist man in den meisten Spielen schon sehr dicht an Missionszielen - Oder in Feuerreichweite zum Feind. In Kombination mit anderen Einheiten wie z.B. der Invictor Tactial Warsuit ergeben sich tolle Möglichkeiten für Erstschläge. Die Spielweise empfiehlt sich jedoch weniger für Einsteiger, diese sind mit der klassischen Space Marine Ausstattung aus z.B. Dark Imperium deutlich besser beraten. The terminator captain is passable, he can deep strike to get into combat or hang around with the tactical squad and dread to aid them with his re-rolls of 1s to hit. This doesn’t sound like much but seriously buffs like this are one of the strengths of a space marine army. Are you excited for Shadowspear? A cool list would centre around a bunch of hardened Primars Captains and Lieutenants, riding along a bunch of auto bolt rifle Intercessors buffed with the Veteran Intercessor stratagem. Slap thunder hammers on the veteran intercessor sargeants and throw these squads and the characters into a bunch of shield dome Impulsors.

Thecommonly heardin-universe answer(usually made up on the spot by sexually insecure male Warhammer fans, for whom the existence of powerful, dominant, and especially combatant female characters in any fiction is inexplicably enraging) normally involves a lot of waffle about howthe Emperor’s gene-crafting processes ‘just weren’t designed’ for female bodies. As if it made any kind of sense for the nigh-omnipotent Emperor of Mankind to rule out halfhissubject human population as potential recruits.

Shadowspear does have enough for 2 players to get going with Warhammer 40K with miniatures for the two forces, the basic rules, campaign details and rules for all the miniatures in the box. All you need to add is some dice and a tape measure.
