Hydromol - Hydromol Why and how to use Hydromol - Hydromol

Hydromol is available as a highly occlusive ointment, a fully dispersible bath emollient and a light, easily-absorbed cream. If you have eczema, using a moisturiser regularly, even once your skin has improved, can help prevent flare-ups and reduce the need for topical corticosteroids. They have limited adverse reactions, such as mild stinging and discomfort, which typically doesn’t last very long. Always test new products on a small area of unaffected skin for 48 hours, just in case you have a reaction. In eczema, oral steroids can be prescribed to offer symptomatic relief to patients with a severe flare-up of their eczema or those waiting for a referral to a dermatologist. Moisturising bath oils are useful for dry skin conditions, such as eczema and dermatitis, which get worse when the skin is allowed to dry out. Used regularly, moisturisers and moisturising bath oils help restore the skin's smoothness, softness and flexibility by replacing lost moisture and helping the skin retain moisture. This helps reduce scaling, redness and itching.

If you're using Hydromol ointment as a moisturiser you can apply it as often as needed to relieve dry skin. It can be applied to any part of the body but avoid getting it in your eyes. Smooth the ointment into the skin in the direction of the hair growth. At every stage of the eczema journey, it is important to keep using moisturisers (emollients) to keep the skin hydrated, soft and smooth. These preparations have been around for a long time. They are applied directly onto the skin to help reduce inflammation and irritation. They are the first-line treatments for eczema flare ups. Like moisturisers, they come in different forms (ointments, creams, gels, mousses, tapes and bandages) and four different strengths (mild, moderate, potent and very potent). Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy or breastfeeding providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine. For more information about any other possible risks associated with this medicine, please read the information provided with the medicine or consult your doctor or pharmacist. How can Hydromol emollient affect other medicines?

Topical steroids need to be gradually weaned off and not stopped abruptly as this can cause your skin to rebound and flare up. Discuss this with your doctor or nurse. Lotions are water-based. Compared to oil-based products, lotions are less moisturising. However, lotions do cool the skin and are easily applied to areas with lots of hair. This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy. When using this preparation in the bath or shower take care to avoid slipping, especially when getting in or out, as this preparation may make the bath or shower more slippery than usual.
