About this deal

While the size of the screen on the RX10 IV is the same as the RX10 III and both are tiltable up to 109 degree upward and 41 degrees downward, it is now also a Touchscreen - the first for an RX10 series camera, and introduces Touch Focus and Touch Pad functionality.

There is a modest crop applied to 240fps and 480fps footage, but it's not bad. The crop at 960fps does limit the wide angle coverage a bit, but can be useful if you're in need of a bit more telephoto reach. The total record time for any frame rate is either two or four seconds. You can set the clip to start recording either at the beginning or the end of the time frame that's going to be slowed down—the latter is a plus if you're trying to capture action, as you can actually start recording the clip after the sequence you want to capture has happened. There is a delay after recording an HFR clip—equal to the length of the clip itself, so be prepared to wait after you've grabbed a slow-motion shot. Our resolution tests are performed at the lowest ISO setting. It's also important to look at how a sensor performs at the higher-sensitivity settings used in dim light. The FZ1000 II is on even footing with most of its competition in this regard—the 1-inch 20MP BSI CMOS sensor inside is the same Sony-made chip used by its rivals. However, it's on the inside where all the changes have been made between the RX10 II to the III to the IV. Image Quality Like its predecessor, the RX10 II is equipped with optical SteadyShot stabilisation. There are two positions, On and Off which can be selected with the mode dial in any position with the exception of some scene modes. To test the stabilisation I zoomed the RX10 II to its maximum 200mm equivalent zoom setting and took a series of hand-held shots in Shutter Priority mode at progressively slower speeds, first with the stabilsation turned off, then with it turned on. As you can see from the above crops, the RX10 II is capable of being handheld at speeds down to around 1/10th – just over four stops slower than convention suggests is safe with a non-stabilised lens.

Oddly the closest competitors for the Sony RX10 III are its own brand’s two predecessors and its Mark IV successor, which were all simultaneously still on sale at one point. When the RX10 II came out in July 2015 it introduced 4K video recording into the RX10 series, and at the time this was a huge deal. Auch finde ich den Tragegurt etwas unpraktisch, weshalb ich mir gleich einen anderen mitbestellt habe. The Touchscreen on the RX10 IV is also higher resolution than its predecessors, at 1,440,000 dots compared to 1,228,800 dots in the RX10 III and RX10 II.
