About this deal
The microphones on the H1n are very sensitive and winds over 6mph will cause audio distortion and peaking if unprotected.
Pressing Stop and Play buttons together outputs a reference tone, for setting audio levels on the camera.hours is certainly a lot of audio but if you go on multi-day recording trips, one 32gb card may not be enough. The H1n’s USB port provides a digital output of the stereo mix and allows data to be send to and from your computer.
Now you can access the main controls and settings from the front (power on/off, delete and headphone level are on the sides). The H1n can capture audio up to 24-bit/96kHz sample rate, producing BWF-compliant WAV or MP3 formats. If you’re recording a complex scene, you could hide two or three Zooms in different positions to make sure you get all the sound you need. The strong stereo separation created by the H1n is most apparent in the recording, “Pond Edge Atmosphere. With a 1/8-inch phone/line output jack with independent volume control for headphones to monitor recordings in real time.
The sound mark feature sends an audio tone from the output jack to your camera to help synchronize sound for filmmakers. The USB port allows for easy transfers of recorded files without the need for a card reader, which is a plus. The H1n’s Playback Speed Control lets you transcribe music, interviews and other types of recordings without altering pitch. This will allow you to record an entire night of audio (one of my favorite recordings to capture while camping). Depending on the way this little machine is used, its microphones will outperform the majority of microphones on a cellphone, point-and-shoot camera, computer, or DSLR. But I had the earlier model which I loved, and this is essentially the same, but a big improvement on the design. It’ll also pick up camera noise if you mount it directly to a hot shoe: you need a suspension mount, especially if you’re handholding the camera.
