The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette Lyrics and Tracklist - Genius

this is one of the most beautiful reissues of this 1979 classic i have got my hands on, the vinyl itself is rather thick, it is a lot more of a solid pink color then blue but it does have nice blue waves through the solid pink, as stated below for a color vinyl lp THIS SOUNDS GREAT! Bolan had taken The Damned on his final UK tour (Dandy In The Underworld) in early 1977, and by all accounts were very impressed with how they were treated. AllMusic's retrospective review reported that when it was released, Machine Gun Etiquette was "deservedly hailed as another classic from the band". Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. All tracks are written by Rat Scabies, Captain Sensible, Dave Vanian and Algy Ward, except as noted No. With third song I Just Can't Be Happy Today, something interesting happens as The Damned begin to explore textures outside of punk. The singles that appear on the album are “Love Song”, “I Just Can’t be Happy Today”, and “Smash It Up”. Machine Gun Etiquette' (great and suitable album title) is the peak of this band's talents, with the pop hooks sharper than ever AND the punk tracks sounding more natural too.

With the title track providing the rationale for getting the Damned back together (plus nabbing the Saints' bassist), the rest of the album is back to gleeful basics, chaotic punk heavy on doomy mood. The Damned didn’t care about definitions, which is why their classic third album sounds as fresh now as it did in 1979. Mixing a number of styles into a short number of songs, it shows the uniqueness of The Damned as oppose to a great number of their counterparts. Over its 40 years in business, PIAS has grown to be one of the largest independently-owned music groups in the world, carving out its own in-house recorded music division PIAS [Recordings]. This album was produced by Roger Armstrong and Ed Hollis, it was eventually released on the 2nd of November, 1979 by Chiswick Records.

Purchased new copy yesterday and no issues w/A1, however, there's a steady tick at the start of Smash It Up (Part 1) B5, that fades as the song progresses. One of the most enduring bands to emerge from the British punk explosion, The Damned can be accountable for a great deal of similar bands to follow after them, with some credit to The Clash and The Sex Pistols among few others as well. After Brian James' exit from the band, The Damned come back from a short break with Captain Sensible (previously on Bass) now on guitar and Algy Ward now on bass. There is more musical richness in the compositions without losing a bit of the strength, the grit and the madness that they had inside. After an intentionally chaotic rocking intro, it’s Ward who fires the first salvo, a massive bass line leading into and pulsing throughout barn burner Love Song with its engagingly tongue-in-cheek chorus. The new Damned swiftly picked up momentum, first as Les Punks with stop-gap bassist Lemmy, then the Doomed and finally under their old name. it would have been good for 'Liar' to have the full blown drum workout as heard on the Peel session ,but it could have been regarded as 'a joke' .

As it name implies this was a demo cut of Love Song and it came out as a white label 45 pressing with a sticker over the hole in the middle as the label copy. Lemmy of Motorhead was the band’s bassist for about five minutes before they settled on Algy Ward, later of 80s metal outfit Tank. Despite being one of the definitive early punk bands they were also one of the most ambitious; with their later albums moving away from gothic rock to psychedelic rock. With the recent departure of guitarist Brian James, The Damned should have been a band with their back to the wall - if they hadn't been pissing an afternoon's worth of ale on it at the time.I’ll be the ticket if you’re my collector, I’ll pay the fare if you’re my inspector’ incites the feeling that whoever the protagonist is, they’re willing to do things for this one person that they wouldn’t usually do, reluctantly breaking their macho exterior. The album was the group's first since reforming with a new lineup of previous members Dave Vanian on vocals, Captain Sensible on lead guitar, Rat Scabies on drums, plus newcomer Algy Ward of heavy metal band Tank on bass guitar on his only album with the band. By then punk rock and its neater sibling, new wave, were regularly producing real hits in the UK and the Damned were no exception, with three hit singles drawn from the MACHINE GUN ETIQUETTE LP released that year.
