They do some really pro-customer and innovative things, although admittedly their follow-through on some seems half-assed. One example is their Arduino-to-SDI board that allows you to send camera-control commands (including lens commands) through SDI into the camera. Thus there's finally an opportunity for developers to do what should have been done years ago: give us a follow-focus control that uses the motors built into every modern still-camera lens, instead of having to bolt a geared contraption onto lenses that aren't at all suited for it. Because the most common location to place microphones is near to cameras, the Pro model includes the best audio ever designed into a studio camera. The professional 2 channel balanced XLR inputs support +24 dBu line level and have an ultra low noise microphone preamplifier with P48 phantom power alongside an equivalent input noise (E.I.N.) of ‑131 dBV(A). That's followed by two 117 dB high dynamic range analogue to digital converters, so you get the high end audio demanded by broadcasters and audio engineers. This means any microphone plugged into the XLR inputs will have a higher level of noise than the camera's audio. So if it's supreme video resolution you need, look to the Sony A1 and Nikon Z8/9. For the best stills performance, though, I genuinely think the R5 stands alone. The 30fps burst isn't always achievable (sometimes topping out at 15-20fps, which is still impressive but less impressive than the spec sheet), but for my money the biggest oversight is that this uber-powerful machine only has a tilting screen. I know not everyone likes full articulation for stills, but an 8K camera with a non-articulating screen is a bit of an oversight.
