Spelling for Years 2-6/P3-P7 teaches spelling cumulatively and systematically with deliberate, focusedpractice. It builds upon the teaching strategies and spelling activities from Read Write Inc. Phonics. In Letters and Sounds, there are ‘sets’ within the Phases – so your child might not know all the sounds in every book within their Phase.

Full training is available from Ruth Miskin Training as part of the Online Training Subscription (separate Spelling Online Training Subscription also available). Read Write Inc (RWI) is a phonics based englishprogramme which helps allchildren learn to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. The programme is designed for children aged 4-7. However some children will need to access this programme beyond the age of 7 to meet individual needs. Before you start to teach your child, practise saying the sounds below. These are the sounds we use to speak in English. Each book contains the same story as its corresponding colour Storybook, but includes clear guidance for parents at every step. In Reception all children will learn how to ‘read’ the sounds in words and how those sounds can be written down. We use pure sounds(‘m’ not’ muh’, ’s’ not ‘suh’, etc.) so that your child will be able to blend the sounds into words more easily. Participation– ensure every child participates throughout the lesson. Partnership work is fundamental to learningDetailed lesson plans for selected titles are provided in Read Write Inc. Phonics Online, including exciting introductions and discussion points The support includes parent-friendly notes for the activities at the start of the books to help children to practise the sounds and words they will encounter in the story. Purpose– know the purpose of every activity and share it with the children, so they know the onething they should be thinking about Children follow the same format as Reception but will work on complex sounds and read books appropriate to their reading level. Daily sessions of RWI phonics last for one hour. Most children should complete the programme by the end ofyear 2 if not earlier.
