This book has been on my radar for a while - I have enjoyed the previous books I have read by Casey McQuiston so I have been looking forward to this one. I say supporting cast, but each character is pivotal to the growth of not only the story but of each other. Chloe is so close to beating Shara, but on the weekend of the senior prom, Shara kisses Chloe and then vanishes.

It's pretty rare for me to love every single character in a book (aside from any intentionally unlikable assholes of course). All that's left behind are a series of letters left for Chloe and the two other people she kissed, Rory, the boy next door, and Smith, her quarterback boyfriend.

When popular 'miss perfect' Shara Wheeler goes missing at prom, her boyfriend Smith Parker, the boy next door who has a major crush on Shara, Rory Heron and her rival for valedictorian Chloe go on the hunt, following the clues Shara left behind. He pauses—she can’t see his face, but his body twists like he’s checking that the coast is clear—and then drops down into the room. The big thing for me was that the book really relies on Chloe and Shara’s rivals to lovers relationship, which I feel could have been reframed.
