About this deal

While watching the last series of Sewing Bee I said to my parents “I wish Esme would bring a book out, she’s had an amazing life by the sounds of it!” , and then not long after, she did! I especially loved reading the sections where she said about the films she had worked on, and one of my favourites being Bridget jones Diary with that classic bunny girl outfit! In the '90s, she moved into designing costumes, creating Renee Zellweger's iconic bunny outfit in Bridget Jones, and dressing Leonardo DiCaprio and his co-stars in Romeo + Juliet. Before Sewing Bee came along, Esme had considered winding down. Now she has no plans to retire. She got the job after meeting a show producer by chance at a party prior to the first series being aired. I didn't understand any of the sewing bits but then I love watching Sewing Bee because watching people being creative is really what it's all about.

I was frightened,” Esme admits. “I was also worried it would take up too much of my time. I was scared because I didn’t want to mess up.”Singer songwriter Lucy Dacus tells Janet Christie about bringing her Home Video to the Edinburgh International Festival She began her career in the early 70s, setting up the fashion company Swanky Modes with three friends in Camden, North London. The Great British Sewing Bee has returned for series 9 with the latest batch of talented home sewers as they battle it out to be crowned Britain's Best Amateur Sewer of 2023. In this autobiography, Esme introduces her father, an heroic World War Two pilot, and her eccentric mother. Sent away to boarding school at an early age, Esme makes little progress due to undetected partial deafness. Her artistic talent and discovery of the delights of making garments showed her the path she wished to follow. Her career at art college and running a successful London fashion line, Swanky Modes, reminded me of my excitement during the 1970s going to visit London boutiques. The hotel is a stone’s throw from some of Bath’s most impressive sights which you will have plenty of time to explore. You'll find Bath Abbey, the Roman Baths and Thermae Bath Spa, the UK’s only natural thermal spa, nearby. Bath also has cobbled streets full of quirky independent shops.

And Esme is the queen of it. Her whole life has revolved around fashion and creativity and her enthusiasm for her subject leaps out of her autobiography. Whilst Young's life has been interesting (working on film dressmaking, cool!), there is nothing stand out to make this an amazing memoir. The TV judge and designer on partying with Pink Floyd and David Bowie, dressing Grace Jones, and collecting animal skulls. After sharing that her favourite garment to make herself is a petticoat, Esme added: "I make about 50% of my own clothes and then I also buy vintage, and go to charity shops. I would never buy anything online because you can’t feel the cloth." BIG LITTLE PRIZE Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz engaged after two years of dating Is Esme married and does she have kids?

In her free time, Esme teaches Innovative Pattern Cutting for graduates and professionals students at Central Saint Martin’s College. Esme uses hands on experience of design, pattern cutting and clothes making to move students’s imagination and help them interpret their drawings so they can develop the designs into actual garments. I had no idea who Esme Young was, I got the book as I enjoy crochet, crafting and occasional sewing, and I thought there might be some good tips on sewing/clothing repairs. During an exclusive and intimate talk from Esme, you'll not only learn about her life, but also get to ask her questions about the Sewing Bee, what goes on behind the scenes and tips for sewing at home. A cosy stay in a country-chic hotel You might not recognise her face, but you have almost certainly seen the work of Esme Young, the stylish judge on The Great British Sewing Bee. Esme Young's clothing line

His suit and his shoes,” she says, seeming amazed that I’d had to ask. “The tailoring was Italian.” Covering her childhood, family life, career starts and many highs, friendships, teaching and ending up with her much loved time as a judge on The great British sewing bee (which is one of my favourite cosy shows). This was interesting, filled with heart and humour, and just also so inspiring reading of Esmes love for what she does and how she was fired up with that passion and self belief from the start.
