About this deal

Dr. Dennis Greenberger is a clinical psychologist and founder and director of the Anxiety and Depression Center in Newport Beach, California. I have found no other resource that comes close to this in its efficacy, clarity, and outcome. The basic premise is very simple - - our physical reactions, thoughts, moods, behaviors and environment are all connected. The workbook starts with helping clients to understand their problems. They are then taught to identify the underlying thoughts and moods that contribute to these perceived problems. They are shown how some of their thoughts and feelings are automatic but that there are alternatives and options for change. Dr. Christine Padesky is a clinical psychologist and co-founder of the Center for Cognitive Therapy in Huntington Beach, California, and co-creator of Strengths-Based CBT. General description Beal, D., Cox, T., Brittain, S, Brubaker, R., & Falkenberg, S. (2004) The concurrent validation of the Mind Over Mood Depression Inventory. Presented at the annual meeting of the Southeastern Psychological Association, Atlanta, GA. See also the Spanish-language edition: El control de tu estado de ánimo, Segunda edición. Plus, mental health professionals, see also The Clinician's Guide to CBT Using Mind Over Mood, Second Edition.

Mind Over Mood book has been translated into multiple languages to help people all over the world improve their mental health. The book provides exercises and strategies for changing negative thinking patterns, dealing with difficult emotions, and improving moods. Book Editions Discover simple yet powerful steps you can take to overcome emotional distress—and feel happier, calmer, and more confident. Of course, guided discovery must be balanced to match the time available. This is why it is important to only use guided discovery in the session to test out really central beliefs, not everything discussed. To be clear, there is lots of straightforward discussion and teaching in a CBT session. Guided discovery is only used when testing beliefs or evaluating emotional responses/behavioral choices. Mind Over Mood, Second Edition: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think

Clinician’s Guide to Mind Over Mood(1st Edition) by Christine A. Padesky with Dennis Greenberger Guilford Press, 1995) Padesky, CA with Greenberger, D (1995) Clinician’s Guide to Mind Over Mood, Guilford Press: New York. I have used Mind Over Mood in my clinical work with patients for 20 years and have found that the second edition is even more helpful than the first. It is a great book for adults and not such a great book for kids, as it is not written at their level, and as the clinical vignettes are about adults with adult problems. Mind Over Mood is an amazing resource that any adult could benefit from reading and practicing the exercises it contains. The worksheets in the book can be a helpful resource to work on with a therapist trained in CBT, especially because it can be hard for people to effectively complete a thought record on their own. I think the client does indeed have blood/injury phobia – which I had never heard of. He does actually faint, and all his triggers are related to blood tests, injuries, hospitals etc. It would also be consistent with a traumatic hospitalization when he was a toddler.

While Mind Over Mood is in some ways a self-help book (and is written in such a way that it can be used for that), it is in fact a 'treatment manual' which might be recommended to us by a therapist and is accompanied by another volume - The Clinician's Guide to Mind Over Mood - which provides guidance for therapists as to how best to use this book with clients. The idea of this book is that theoretically it is to be used in conjuction with/during/between therapy sessions with a qualified therapist. Cited as “The Most Influential Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Publication” by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies and included in the UK National Health Service Bibliotherapy Program. Utilizing what is called a "Thought Record", clients are able to record and analyze situations or events that create anxiety or depression. Then, along with their therapist, they can examine triggers and ways to develop more balanced thoughts which end up improving their mood. Firstly, if you’re looking into this book because of your battle with depression, anxiety, or something else distressing, I’m sorry. This may not be helpful to hear but in case it is, you’re not alone.Persons, J. B., Mooney, K. A., & Padesky, C. A. (1995). Interrater reliability of cognitive-behavioral case formulations. Cognitive Therapy and Research, 19 (1)21-34. The second edition of Mind Over Moodreceived second place in the Am erican Journal of Nursing (AJN),2016 Book of the Year Awards, in the Consumer Health category. The Book of the Year Awardsare defined as “the most valuable texts of 2016, as chosen by AJN’s panel of judges.” The authors take us step-by-step in understanding these patients' conditions; their altered perspectives, their thought processes, and the reasons behind their personal views and triggers. And with these case studies the reader is taught how thoughts, moods, environment, events influence each other and ultimately drive specific feelings. This is how the authors teach us "Mind over Mood". Cognitive therapy is a powerful and useful method but I suspect many patients give up because it takes a lot more effort than pharm-therapy. The reader/patient must take full ownership of the process and then not quit. In my CBT Boot Camp workshop, I teach the principles of Socratic questioning and include other topics essential to developing skills as a cognitive therapist.
