About this deal

The Horizon Pro switches on in seconds and uses edge intelligent screen detection to automatically match your screen size with the projected image. Automatic keystone correction adjusts the vertical and horizontal alignment, giving you the perfect, custom fit for your wall. The ProjectorCentral Forums is a great place to chat with other projector enthusiasts about all things projectors. Join the Discussion Comments about the Horizon Ultra's brightness are complicated by an Environment Adaptation feature that uses an auto iris and other techniques to adjust brightness for the ambient light in the room and, according to the menu option, "increases the brightness and color adjustment ranges to adapt to a bright light environment." Regardless, according to the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) recommendations, the rated 2,300 ISO lumens (equivalent to ANSI lumens) would be enough to light up a 220-inch diagonal, 1.0-gain, 16:9 screen in a dark room. By itself, the Horizon Pro functions well as a stand-alone Bluetooth speaker. Android TV and Chromecast Built-in also make it a breeze to cast and play music from any device. Final Remarks As with any projector, it's generally better to avoid digital adjustments for keystone distortion, image size, or position, because they lower brightness and can introduce artifacts in some images. However, they are tempting time savers. A decent compromise is to use them when you need to set up in a hurry after moving the projector, but turn them off and use manual adjustments—except for focus—for permanent or semi-permanent setup, and when you're not in a rush. Generally, the 2200 lumens brightness is good enough to watch during the day, where you can get around a 60-inch picture (you need to put the projector around 5ft away). This also means you can watch outside when the full sun has gone, starting at around a 30-inch picture. When it gets fully dark, you can go as big as the projector will allow (300 inches). Brightness (light output) will vary depending on usage conditions. White light output measured in accordance with ISO 21118. The nominal value represents the average value of mass production and is tested under ideal laboratory conditions in the performance mode/high power mode. Concerning audio, the Horizon Pro is equipped with stereo 45 mm drivers (by Harman Kardon) which, in my opinion, sound pretty good. Compared to the built-in speakers of most TVs, the Horizon Pro's sound much fuller, and they're able to get pretty loud—enough to get a small party going. I'd say that they're a step up over a good pair of portable Bluetooth speakers, but still falling behind some entry-level bookshelves. To sound their best, I recommend disabling the "DTS Studio Sound" audio processing and keeping the default "Movie" sound preset. There’s no projector stand built in, so you’ll either need to prop up the projector to get the right angle, or you can use the thread-mount on its underside to attach it to a tripod. The latter is a good option, giving you an easy way to move and position the projector.

As for how HDR actually looks on the Horizon Pro, it looks fine. Most HDR films that I've viewed on the Horizon Pro appeared similar to their SDR counterpart, which is actually a good thing given the low dynamic range of the projector. But as it turns out, SDR scenes are capable of delivering higher dynamic range than HDR on this projector since it does not tone map its peak brightness to the appropriate level. In terms of color, things can look a little better than SDR, but unfortunately, the Horizon Pro doesn't fully cover the DCI-P3 color gamut with respect to reds and greens, so some color clipping may occur. Overall, HDR on the Horizon Pro doesn't add much and it can sometimes result in inferior picture quality, so you can take it or leave it. Android TV means support for Google Assistant, which you can use via the voice remote. You can search for or launch apps, find new content and ask general questions, such as what the weather is like.

Automatic keystone correction can be activated any time the projector senses motion. It was too sensitive for my needs as any bump would start a new hunt and override my carefully constructed rectangle. For crisp, dynamic sound, built in, who better than audio experts Harman Kardon to deliver. Bespoke stereo speakers produce punchy and spacious sound. Combined with DTS Studio Sound Technology, you get an immersive surround sound effect for enveloping sound. There are only four buttons on the top of the projector—power, volume up, volume down, and play—and aside from the power button their functionality isn't mentioned anywhere in the documentation that comes with the projector or found online. This reinforces the fact that the remote is an absolute necessity to control the Horizon. A key feature with the Horizon Pro model, is the move up to 4K UHD resolution. Ultra HD 4K resolution gives you four times more detail than Full HD with over 8 million pixels. It delivers a sharper, more life-like picture with richer and more natural colour. It also lets you sit closer to the screen – making it ideal for smaller rooms, too. Every image mode out of the box is very blue, which causes magenta to be more of a purple. The closest to the target 6500K white point that the Horizon Pro gets (without adjusting the white balance) is in Custom image mode with color temperature set to warm, and it's still slightly blue at around 7000K. With my Calman calibration software from Portrait Displays, an X-rite i1 Pro 3 spectrophotometer, and a Murideo Six-G pattern generator, I was able to get the white balance to 6500K by using the RGB sliders that are available with a custom color temperature. My settings were Red 49, Blue 21, and Green 30, but only use those as a starting point and don't expect them to get the exact same results as product samples vary. The color temperature adjustment also fixed the magenta color point that, under all the other image settings, was far too purple (although it was still a little oversaturated, as was blue and red).Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 26th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) There are four manual controls along the top of the projector: on/off, play/pause, volume up, and volume down.
