About this deal

There are some nice little realistic details, like the description of the difference between a juvenile and an adult hedgehog, and how noisy young hedgehogs are (it really is true). I'm so sorry about the inconvenience this is causing, I have passed your feedback onto our design team regarding this and we will be looking into this further. Our lovely colour-coded activity plan ensures that each group of guided readers develops their reading and writing skills as part of the national curriculum for English.

Max's first attempt is at a zebra crossing, where he injures himself receiving a nasty bump on his head.Dick lived with his wife in a small 17th-century cottage, about three miles from the house where he was born. If you’re thinking about using the story of Max the hedgehog as the basis for creative writing activities, take a took at this useful writing assessment pack. Our lovely teacher and design teams have updated this resource and you can now download the new version. Inside this collection, you’ll also find our The Hodgeheg Assessment Pack Y3 To Support Teaching on 'The Hodgeheg'. When he tries to cross the road he ends up with a bump on his head, which confuses him, and he begins to say everything all jumbled up.

It's a great story for teaching road safety awareness, particularly as all of Max's early attempts to cross the road come so close to ending badly. However poor Max sustains a bump to the head during one of his expeditions resulting in his muddled speech.I was surprised when I discovered tHat I didn't remember all that much about the story, but I thought that added to my enjoyment. Whether you’re reading with the whole class, or leading carousel reading sessions, this pack contains everything you need to support guided reading on chapters 1 and 2 of ‘The Hodgeheg’ by Dick King-Smith.

Inside each pack, the handy Guided Reading Teaching Guide gives you a choice of three colour-coded timetables for running guided reading sessions with different groups within your class. The story focusses on Max the "hodgeheg" who tries to devise a way in which hedgehogs can cross the road safely. uk/resources/planit-english-primary-teaching-resources-year-3/planit-english-primary-teaching-resources-year-3-animals-the-hodgeheg-1/planit-english-primary-teaching-resources-year-3-animals-the-hodgeheg-1-recounts Enjoy the rest of your day! Your KS1 class will read the passage and add in adjectives of their choice or using the resource with the word bank.

However, the main message of this book is that determination is important if you want to succeed; an important value that all young children should be led to consider. Your Year 2 / Year 3 class will look at the word used within context and meanings and also applied to new contexts. I really enjoyed this light tale for young readers, which explores the idea of a hedgehog having the intelligence to want to find a safe road crossing place for himself and his family, so they can travel safely to the local park.
