About this deal

One thing worth pointing out, is in this age for video DSLRs, the VR might help you get slightly smoother handheld video clips too. While it is often difficult to nail focus with most lenses in low-light conditions, the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.

Particularly in the photography of starry skies, bright wide-angle lenses are often selected because they can efficiently collect weak light. It has eight ribs that will mar the outside of the lens with extended use and leave space for dust to enter. The only thing I tend to agree with is the point about filters, and given the findings of other reviews regarding edge sharpness it does sound like the softness this reviewer found is mostly limited to relatively close subjects, and if that is the case then they should have spotted that and mentioned it. The OLED is always the same brightness, so while it looks great indoors, it can be too bright outdoors at night and it's completely illegible in direct sunlight. The good news is, it is certainly possible to use filters with the right third-party adapter (such as this one), but the bad news is that such a filter system is rather large and expensive.I actually use my UWA for environmental portraits a fair bit (tho bokeh is a non issue then and/or usually not great on any Additionally, a built-in lens hood helps to protect the front element as well as prevent stray light from causing flare. I’ve got to admit, having just handled the 14-24, I was fully expecting to be disappointed with the feel of it’s cheaper little brother. Unfortunately, they also have a noticeably brighter outline or soap bubble effect which can make the bokeh very busy-looking. What's changed is Nikon's ability to manufacture aspherical elements efficiently, as it does with the dinky but superb 18-55mm kit lens.

Three aspherical lenses, including a large diameter aspherical lens at the foremost surface, are used to effectively minimise coma flare, etc. This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware. How many people are going to drop almost two Gs on a lens like this, when more practical lenses for the D3 and D300 cost less?aperture and Nikon was proud to state that it rivaled prime lenses when it came to optical performance. and you won't even be able to get firmware or service for it — even if you're willing to pay out-of-pocket for it when you need it! I coon oh good grief you're not understanding, by collapsing I mean a lens where you have to twist it to a given position BEFORE you can use it and the camera will recognise it, then collapse it back to the original position after you have used it. The lens expands from the lens mount to the larger-than-normal zoom ring and gets even fatter from there.

It does have an extremely swift linear autofocus drive with a total of four motors, unlike the stepper motor drive of the Nikkor Z 14-24mm F2. This lens is intended for use on film and full frame cameras, on which it is obviously a 14-24mm equivalent. When you move the focus ring and reach the focus limit, the ring continues rotation with a little more resistance, instead of an abrupt stop. You can look at the 14-24mm from outside of the picture angle and still see glass, which means that stray light can hit that glass, too. With a 9-bladed rounded diaphragm I get soft 18-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light only at the smallest apertures, and they're not very sharp. I've made extensive side-by-side shots with Nikon's four other ultra-ultra wide lenses, and the 14mm has the least ghosting , the least falloff, the least peripheral color shift and by far the most sharpness, especially in the corners wide open.
