About this deal

On the Makerfabs one, it's slightly narrower and fits in perfectly to my Z7 and Z9. I *just* - as of 5 minutes ago - took a 2m45s 4K video in my Z7. It worked flawlessly and internal temperatures of the camera were under 75 degrees F. Similarly, the Makerfabs enclosure was just as cool.

When Sony released the a7S III, it also introduced a new card type—the CFexpress Type A. The later-released a1 also utilized this new memory card. Sony was the only company producing the CFexpress Type A for a bit, but ProGrade entered the market to provide an alternative. Though the Prograde version is still not cheap by any means, it is more affordable than Sony’s, saving you some money. If a card’s maximum read and write speed is the same, this will be indicated by R/W before or after the speed in MB/s. Dan, if you continue writing this well, I’ll follow you for sure. Thanks so much for clearing this up, and I am inspired to get a Canon R5. But all the reputable dealers, BHPhoto, and the like are still charging almost full price. Maybe this spring. On 28 July 2020, Sony announced the α7S III, a mirrorless camera that will support dual CFexpress Type A and SD cards. [40]Even more intensive video capture modes are the obvious use, but do we really need 4GB/s? The efficiency of the HEVC encoding format means you won’t need anything like that data rate even at 8K 120fps. Unfortunately, CFexpress cards are the most expensive memory cards as they are the newest variety and offer the fastest speeds. But this 64GB card from SanDisk is much more affordable than other options. And despite the lower price, it comes from a trusted company, so it’s less likely you’ll have a card failure and lose all of your images. The 64GB is the cheapest option, but if you need a larger capacity, the other sizes are also more affordable than the rest of the cards on this list. At 10fps, it takes 13 seconds to shoot 130 images which seems an incredibly long time when you’re standing on the touchline or kneeling as your dog lollops towards you. In practise, you’re likely to shoot in shorter bursts, but it’s great to know that the card can match the camera’s capability. While CFexpress Type B cards are pricey, they're essentially a small M.2 2230 NVMe 1.2-compliant SSD with a PCIe 3.0 x2 interface inside a special housing. You're paying a premium for a genuine CFexpress Type B card. On 13 June 2017, Delkin introduced the first CFexpress cards, which were on the CFexpress 1.0 specification. [3] The cards have a XQD form factor and use two PCIe 3.0 lanes. They come in 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB capacities.

VPG Standards – Minimum Sustained Write Speed All of these cards carry the VPG400 symbol, indicating a minimum sustained write speed of 400 MB/s. On 23 August 2018, Nikon announced their new mirrorless cameras, the Z6 and Z7. At launch they only supported XQD cards, but a later firmware update enabled support for CFexpress. [30] [31] On 13 February 2019, Nikon further confirmed that CFexpress support via a firmware update will also be coming to the D5, D850 and D500. [32] On 16 December 2019, Nikon released firmware version 2.20 for the Z6 and Z7, adding support for CFExpress. [33] In December 2020, Nikon released firmware version 1.20 for the Nikon D850 DSLR that added support from CFexpress-B in the camera's XQD slot. [34] ProGrade Digital announced it would begin production and sale of CFexpress cards in 2018 with the Type-B form-factor (the same as XQD). [12] As for the kinds of photographers who will adopt CFexpress in the next couple of years, pros and enthusiasts with money to spend are likely to increasingly choose CFexpress, while SD will still be there for those with a lower-end camera, or those who don’t need top-tier write performance. Who makes CFexpress cards and how much do they cost? The Sony Alpha A7S III (above) is the first camera to support CFexpress Type A, and this the most interesting format of the moment. Yes, it may offer the lowest performance of the lot, but these cards can fit into a combi slot that will also take SD cards.I've never understood the complaining about XQD and now CFE B prices compared to fast UHS-II cards - I own one of the 128GB Manfrotto CFe-B cards, which works well on my Nikon D850. It's not quite as fast as my Sony Tough CFe-B card. On 18 April 2017 the CompactFlash Association published the CFexpress 1.0 specification. [2] Version 1.0 will use the XQD form-factor (38.5mm × 29.8mm × 3.8mm) with two PCIe 3.0 lanes for speeds up to 2 GB/s. NVMe 1.2 is used for low-latency access, low overhead and highly parallel access. Overall, the Lexar Gold Series Professional CFexpress Type A Card is a top-performing and reliable memory card option for professional creators who demand the best from their gear. Its fast read and write speeds, sustained performance, and durability make it a valuable addition to any photographer or videographer’s toolkit.

The Sony just got a little warm but this card has a more plastic build so it has different heat dispersion properties. CFexpress 2.0 type B Gen4 Cards are basically already available in the form of the Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S, which are mechanically incompatible to most slots because of their lengthened housing.
