About this deal

You got old.’ It’s a simple line, muttered with relish by a Chaos Space Marine to the Lion, but it’s a perfect encapsulation of where the Lion is both physically and mentally, and this element alone helps keep the return of a Primarch fresh, and not just a repeat of when Gulliman returned several years ago. The Lion. Son of the Emperor, brother of demigods and Primarch of the Dark Angels. Awakened. Returned. And yet...lost. As far as characters go, Brooks really had fun with the Arthurian legend, with homages to Gawain, Lancelot, Bors, poor doomed Bedevere. Otherwise, its the standard Angel naming convention a la Blood Angels. He really cannot give Guilliman any shit; the dude is forming a Lion Protectorate, shades of Warhammer 50K here.

The Lion: Son of the Forest is a novel set in the Warhammer 40K universe, written by Mike Brooks and released in 2023. En cuanto a lore, se abre la posibilidad de que los caídos pudieran fingir tener una vida normal, en valle con su granjita y una familia una cosa tremenda And I’ll be honest - I never cared for the Dark Angels. The Lion just felt like a more stoic, less interesting version of Leman RUss, and the whole Dark Angels and Fallen element of his legion just didn’t grab me. It doesn’t matter - I adore Mike Brook’s depiction of the new Lion El’Johnson, a man who doesn’t understand the galaxy he has awoken into, the attitudes and beliefs of the people he protects, and the very nature of his existence. His genuine wish to protect his soldiers and his people, his horror at the concept of being the last living Primarch, and his active attempts to simmer his former, destructive behaviors are all delightful to behold. But the rest of the book was great. I loved how Lion was shown as an character. And how he kept some of his arrogance, but was wise enough to always chose what gave him the best odds in any fight. The warp travel part was unexpected, but the primarchs have always had an connection to the warp. So it kind of works. This is your first chance to read about the Lion’s exploits in the 41st Millennium – and to find out exactly what the Primarch of the Dark Angels has been up to since the end of the Horus Heresy. Not just sleeping, it would seem… move on from the past. Zabriel, a Dark Angels ally, is from the first-person past, showing how he is still shaped by what happened in the splitting of the legion but has integrated it. And Baelor is from the third-person past, showing that like Zabriel he's shaped by the past, but unlike him he still dissociates from it. Meaningful Rename: At the end of the book, the Lion renames the Fallen who chose to follow him to the Risen. Alone in Imperium Nihilus, without the Emperor, the Imperium, or his sons, the Lion faces a terrible challenge. He meets a formidable Chaos warband led by one of his traitorous sons, and must call upon every ally he can. He’ll even need to rally his Fallen knights, who have been hunted across the galaxy as they awaited the day their father would return. There are shades of old Lion in him. Such as during the first fight against the Not-Chaos Beast, he imperiously throws his gore-clogged helmet to the people he dived in to save, commanding them first to stay out of the way, and second, clean my helmet. During a fight. That's our lovable bastard.

The Lion receives the Emperor's Shield during one of his vision trials in the Forest. As his various daemons come at him in the form of his Primarch bros, a kite shield emblazoned with an Eagle pops up, imparts upon him a Vision, of whom he feels the touch of the Emperor on his mind. I'll probably re-read it in the next couple of days. Hopefully y'all can catch more easter eggs and tie ins I have not yet discovered or mulled over yet. I agree with 'growth', but I think people often conflate 'growth' with 'positive change'. Growth can also mean a calcifying of previously-held beliefs, or a return to them, an entrenchment of them. The Lion learned to trust through Imperium Secondus and Ruinstorm. They all but go skipping off into the sunset hand-in-hand. But he was hurt afterwards - he saw the futility of his efforts. Terra fell, the Emperor died because people he trusted and relied upon couldn't get the job done. If they had been more ruthless, more ready to make sacrifices, more Lion-like, maybe the day could have been saved. Maybe things wouldn't have turned to :cuss:. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Growth, in this situation, means became enmeshed, gnarled roots and branches twining into impenetrable foliage. The Lion's moment of trust and weakness saw the death of the dream. Growth means never trusting anyone else to make the hard decisions ever again.

Years of slaving away has finally paid off! The car is yours and you have finally fulfilled your ultimate goal. So you drive the car away from the show room and park it out the front of your house. One last heist vibes here from the Fallen. Alpha Legion would be amused at their obvious fieldcraft. They WANT to be found. They are lonely. They are in pain.
