Don’t touch me” “My hands are at my sides, Behach Éan.” I turn to scowl at him. “With any part of your body” “Then do not touch other men” My heart hurt for Lore. He tried so hard again and again with Fallon. She was his mate, yet she wanted none of it. Fallon was determined to have her independence and stay away from him. But even when Lore wasn't around Fallon, I loved how well informed he kept. I laughed out loud way too many times over that! Through it all, Lore was a constant. He was seductive, charming and impossible to ignore. And he always protected Fallon. There was literally nothing he wouldn't do for her *cries*. Plus he seemed to play by her rules, and respect Fallon's needs and wants when push came to shove So I kept waiting for the moment that Lore would claim her, because I knew it would be so hot! I’ll riot if Gabriel ends up dying. As for the rest of the side characters, they’re all pretty well developed. They all serve a purpose and although I feel like there are a lot of side characters, I also think that they’re all very well written and pretty unique (so I’m thankfully able to distinguish them very easily- which is sometimes hard to do with such a large cast). House of Beating Wings set me up for what I thought was an epic romance to come. I was anxiously awaiting more of Lore and Fallon. After pretty much zero romance in the first book, I was very dissatisfied in having to wait for roughly 75% of this book for that romance. There were bits and pieces throughout of the two together that was intended to add to the slow burn, but Fallons irrational thoughts and feelings towards Lore made the appeal of a romance between the two seem so unrealistic. Fallon hated Lore. It didn’t feel like a typical enemies to lovers type of hate that flips into desire. Her level of immaturity ruined that aspect. She made ridiculous decision after ridiculous decision to keep away from him - and keep away from him she did; they were apart for a majority of the book. Lore seemed to only like her because she freed him or because of their mated bond as she literally gave him no other attractive qualities. The main character Fallon has no clear purpose or character growth, she just goes blindly into literally everything without a second of questioning. And not to mention every character conveniently adds into the plot in the most seamless and unproblematic way it makes no sense.

My words are met with a dusky smile that heightens the fever in my blood and the throb everywhere else. Although Fallon undergoes a lot of growth throughout this book, she kind of annoyed me at the beginning (and middle) with her obsession with the prince (not a spoiler- it’s literally mentioned in the synopsis). However, I will say that I’m super glad that by the end of this novel, that was all done. That’s why I think the next installment will be better than this one— because we hopefully won’t have any more unnecessary love triangles (which, as we all know, I absolutely hate lol). Bleh okay, I feel like these quotes are really not representative but you’ll get the full scope of this man’s swoon worthiness when you actually read the book, I promise. That said, I do have to admit that I was a bit disappointed when the characters finally got together. I felt like their chemistry suddenly vanished and all the angst and pining that had led to that moment were not really played out in any way. That’s actually something I’ve struggled with with some of this author’s other works as well. Where I’d feel like the relationship buildup is quite good but the payoff is just not there. Maybe that’s just me though so let’s move on and talk instead about the characters individually. Overall it was a great read and I think it´s safe to say that this series will be one of my favorites of 2023. I loved House of Beating Wings, and I was dying to get my hands on House of Pounding Hearts. I loved it just as much and maybe a bit more.Lots of traveling, exploring, meeting and plotting to play an unofficial game of thrones to be the one who ultimately rules over the kingdoms. (I’m team crow bros) Olivia is the byproduct of a meet-rude in a Parisian discotheque that turned into an epic love story spanning several decades. Naturally, this shaped the way she viewed romance.

PDF / EPUB File Name: House_of_Beating_Wings_-_Olivia_Wildenstein.pdf, House_of_Beating_Wings_-_Olivia_Wildenstein.epub Why are all men named Lorcan so damn sexy!? He´s broody, he´s dark haired, he´s charming, he´s all "touch her and I´ll kill you" and all possessive. He´s the stereotypical book boyfriend and we all love it. Lorcan will definitely go into my top ten of book boyfriends. I love Fallon as well. She´s smart, headstrong and brave. She isn´t your typical warrior woman but she is always standing up for herself which I loved. The slowburn in this series is so delicious, I love when it´s as drawn out as it is here. There is some smut in this book, although one of the scenes felt a bit weird and a bit unrealistic to me.

THE ROMANCE WITH the real love interest didn’t really start until over halfway through the book. Honestly, I question his sanity because I don’t know how he can be even remotely interested in Fallon. Because of their mind connection, he could read all her thoughts, and boy did she have a lot of dumb thoughts. If I had to listen to her incessant daydreaming about Dante and how she’s going to marry him and be queen all day long then I would definitely NOT be interested. But I guess she’s probably BeaAuTiFUl so why would a personality matter 🤡 There is also a big reveal in regards to their mind link or connection. The reveal was fairly obvious to me, especially after learning early on that it is not unique to every Crow. Still, it was nice to get the theory confirmed (look at the list of tropes above again if you want a minor spoiler 🤭) and I can’t wait to see how this plays out for them in the future. I do have a lot of respect for this author, and have absolutely LOVED some of her previous books. Unfortunately however, this one did not hit the mark for me…. I was too annoyed by the MC although I am VERY intrigued by the male character we get introduced to later… Once upon a time, Lore, you told me that we were just beginning.” I glance over my shoulder as my words settle into him. “So let’s begin.” It reads like a first draft slapped together, given a beautiful cover and sent on its way. The writing is incredibly juvenile and very poorly edited. I am surprised beta readers (assuming there were any) didn't flag any of this before the final story was released.

I'm starting to sincerely doubt that I read the same book as everyone else. If I'm being completely honest I was bored from the beginning. Something about the heroine and how naive she comes across made it really hard for me to root for her in any way. After a while, I realized that that's just how she's written. The romantic side plot is moving at a glacier's pace and I don't even know if I like the guy because he's barely in the story up to this point. The actual story is also at a standstill and has been for quite some time. It only just now started to start (which with how bored I already am is just too late in the book for me) The people she surrounds herself with, for the most part, either have an attitude toward her or are just plain mean or boring. The one thing I disliked about the heroine that left a bad taste in my mouth was how she went out of her way to s*ut shame and profession shame (the other woman was a sex worker) another woman because she was jealous. Like... I'm sorry but in this house, we don't shame other people for doing what they need to do to survive. Hell, if sex work is what someone wants to do go right ahead. As long as you're not hurting/endangering yourself or others I won't be commenting on it because it's none of my business nor anyone else's. We already know I love him. Did I like that he let the whole “fiancé” thing go on for so long? No but I can understand why he thought it could help Fallon accept the bond. Another thing I didn’t really like though is how often he hides things from Fallon. I get that she’s much younger than him but if you’re not going to see her as a future queen then you also won’t be able to treat her right as your partner because the two kind of go hand-in-hand in this scenario. That said, I’ll admit that Fallon doesn’t always make it easy to see her as a mature, grown woman.

I noticed a shift in Olivia's writing style with the first novel, but it made sense for romantasy and was something I easily adjusted to. However, from the beginning of HoPH the writing was a turn off. It seemed overwritten and frankly, rushed. There were multiple things I caught that should have been remedied during the editing process. If you can look past this, by all means give the book a try, I just could not get past this enough to enjoy the story. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, provided by the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.* Lorcan: 😍😍😍stop I love him so much. He’s the BEST. MY PRECIOUS. maybe I could steal him from Fallon... Olivia did a great job expanding on the important plot points that were introduced from Book 1. We are finally introduced to the Sky Kingdom and its people. We get a glimpse of how Lucin is holding up with Dante as the new reigning monarch, and how the Lucin society is adapting. Additionally, we learn more about Nebba, as well as the mysterious Shabbins as well. I wish I can go into more details, but I don’t want to spoil anything! However, the new information we learn is not overwhelming, and does not drag or slow down the overall storyline. All of this fits well within Fallon’s character arc and development. This book however, was not for me. I could not connect with Fallon at all, her personality annoyed me the whole book.
