About this deal

In the first three pages, it’s established Phoebe’s a runner, her mom’s a therapist, and her mom’s getting married with a man she’s known for six days (and tells Phoebe this right after Phoebe’s done running a very important race.

She was portrayed in a brilliantly realistic way and I loved her relationship with her friends and her family. I think Helen's friends especially were underdeveloped, and I honestly could not tell any of them apart. This YA novel of losing one's identity, being forced to adapt to a highly charged new emotional environment, and redefining what love and friendship mean to you is a cute, nicely thought out romp.Hotjar sets this cookie to know whether a user is included in the data sampling defined by the site's pageview limit. It doesn’t stop here either—when they’re getting to the island where they’ll be living in Greece, on the ferry ride, Damian (that’s hubby-hunk) explains that the school Phoebe is going to is populated by descendants of Greek gods. Perhaps, but this is of course too simplistic: see how Aaron Banks recently tried to co-opt Roman history to serve his anti-immigration position. Her dad might look like a dorky academic but he’s actually Zeus, ruler of the gods, while her spiteful and self-absorbed sister is the goddess of beauty, Aphrodite.

I am all about grrrls supporting grrrls, and I’m really glad I bought this book as it didn’t disappoint. I think it seemed a little rushed and unplanned to me, for example, near the beginning Phoebe's mum tells her that shes marrying this guy that she's known for six days and moving to Greece. She then proceeds to talk to Griffin, who tells her he was destined to be with a descendant of Nike, and they start a relationship. Thank you very much to the lovely people of Scholastic UK for allowing me to take home a copy of this amazing novel from their event in February. It's sometimes hard to know what to expect with an author visit but I had every confidence that Alex's visit was going to be a one to remember. While containing many of the contrived plot constructions of romantic narratives (such as bets on characters trying to get others to like them, a male best friend who’s secretly in love with the girl, etc. Older pupils may be more interested in my talk outlining my unconventional journey to becoming an author - ideal for assemblies or careers discussions.

Reading Sheppard’s use of Helen alongside Gorgias’ Encomium or Euripides’ Trojan Women, for instance, would generate really interesting discussion. She makes repeated excuses for his behavior, deciding that he's a terrible person because he had a rough childhood, and she knows he's got a good heart. went through a site redesign and, since then Queernunnos (Herbert) is no longer listed on the supporting cast page. This, along with some of the other young adult romance novels, could be used in a genre or theme study in the context of book club. Can Helen rein in her family before they blow their cover along with any chance of Helen having a half-normal life?
