A side switch turns the light on and off with each full press, while the + / - buttons on top of the torch control the brightness level. All in all the HC68 leaves a solid first impression; it feels solid in hand and is, in terms of design, not boring at all. I imagine this light would appeal most to campers and backpackers that need to have their hands free, but for me, the greatest appeal is when working on cars. Like a lot of other headlamps in their stable, the HC68 has multiple sets of emitters, but this time with a bit of a twist – being able to ramp from a flood mode to a “spot” mode. The main and innovative feature of the Nitecore HC28 is the continuous adjustment of the light output.

The HC68 headlamp comes with a 3500mAh high capacity 18650 battery that supports an exceptional 800 hours of runtime on ultra low. The minus and plus for degrees of light instead of scrolling up through the options for brighter or dimmer light like most do. Nitecore HC68 headlamp equipped with 2x cool white SST40 LEDs and powered by included 18650 cell is a good headlamp.I have had a couple of accidental activations by storing it in a jacket pocket so just beware the button protrudes slightly. It has a residual charge indication, IP68 degree of protection, 2m (waterproof and submersible) with an impact resistance of 2 meters. The optical system of the HC68 uses a unibody TIR lens system and is equipped with 4 different LEDs; 2 main white light LEDs (Luminus SST-40-W), one with depth beam covering a maximum distance of 202 meters and the other with wide beam flood beam (150 °), and 2 red light LEDs auxiliaries. The Nitecore HC68 headlamp has a maximum output of 2000 lumens and a beam range of up to 202 meters.

It's also a plus that the HC68 does not feature a proprietary battery (all the 18650 with a button top will work) or a proprietary charging system (standard USB-C).All readings will be taken at 30 seconds, to simulate real-world use after an initial drop from power-on.
