Welf of Gressoney and brothers Antonion and Gian Battista Caraccio, the brewery was rented to it’s namesake and brand founder Giuseppe Menabrea in 1854. Sometimes this brand update is done by the new owners after a brewery has been sold, other times just to give the brand a fresh new look on the ever growing market. After Carlo Menabrea, the brewery was handed to Emilio Thedy and Augusto Antoniotti, the husbands of the Menabrea sisters. For the past five generations, we at Menabrea have been taking the utmost care in the production of our beer. This takes place in three stages, helps the dispersion of CO2 and results in a high and abundant foam. The Birra Menabrea brewery stands where it has always stood, in the northern Italian city of Biella.Please note that it isn’t always possible to provide a perfect looking bottle/label as this very much depends on the condition they are received in from our supplier. The beer has won numerous awards in its time, achieving both gold and silver at the prestigious World Beer Championships in 1997, a highly authoritative annual competition which is endorsed by industry experts. The resulting birra is then gently aged for at least 30 days in a unique maturation process, known as 'lagering'. Founded in 1846, Menabrea has been a witness to epoch-making events: it has survived two devastating world wars, it has seen the election of 13 popes, it has seen the appointment of 25 American presidents, it has received news of the laying of the first pillar of the Eiffel Tower and it has seen Edison test the first lightbulb.

For some products supply can be inconsistent, whether that is at the brewery itself or how often we or its supplier imports it. The incredibly pure water and cold fresh air of the region made it the perfect location to build a brewery. Once sourced, our ingredients are meticulously brewed using a combination of traditional craftsmanship and innovative modern day techniques under the supervision of Menabrea's master brewer.
