About this deal

Originally I bought the Makala MK-S for my dad, he’d expressed an interest in learning ukulele very shortly after I started playing. The Dolphin’s composite back and sides don’t do it any favors, and the uke feels very dense and heavy for its size. I recently got a Makala MK-P model Uke and have to say i honestly love the little Pinnaple shapped bugger. There were a few minor imperfections here and there, but these issues were purely cosmetic and don’t affect tone or playability.

I put Martin Fluorocarbon strings on both ukes and I found the white one sounds absolutely wonderful. As such, this retains its position as about the best starter ukulele I can recommend to people (for those wanting to spend next to no money). Introducing the Tenor Ukulele, a classic rendition crafted with precision and a focus on quality materials. I intend to run a number of long term tests on instruments I have kept, as often the long term views can be more illuminating than the initial impressions.I DO NOT ALLOW WHOLESALE COPYING AND PASTING OF CONTENT FROM THIS SITE WITHOUT PERMISSION This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4. There are cheaper ukuleles out there (if you’re really strapped for cash) but I’m not sure if there are any that are better than this. This great sounding Makala MK-C Concert Ukulele is ideal for anyone beginning or wanting to improve their ukulele. These similarities are unsurprising as the man behind Kala, Mike Upton, started the company after leaving Hohner, Lanikai’s parent company. I’ve never been much of an equipment hound for whatever instrument I’ve played, but I have trouble finding any significant differences between these models – they both have a decent warmth of sound and hold in tune fairly well.

Here is one of my dolphins today (yes, yes I know, it's not red, its purple, but I bought two when I wrote that review, and the red one has been gifted to my young nephew since then - this is the one we kept and gets played - same vintage! In the hand it feels pretty decent too, the weight is pretty much bang on in terms of what I like (I’m a bit Goldilocks, not too light, not too heavy) and the distribution of the weight means it feels comfortable to play standing up too which isn’t always the case. So I will happily find myself still strumming this when at home - perhaps more than I do some of my other instruments. I'll be visiting an old school friend and his wife in New Zealand over Christmas (2023) from Blighty. The action could be brought down with a bit of basic setup work, but that sort of thing may go beyond the skill and comfort level of a beginner.I'd like to add that a friend of mine admitted to me that she'd lost her temper and thrown one of these about 10 foot from her room, where it landed on the staircase, and she assured me that it was thrown HARD. They’re either a bit tinny or they’re muted and somewhere between those brackets is the holy grail of sound. The concert-sized MK-C or the tenor-sized MK-T are good starting points if you’re considering a bigger uke. Update] – Now I’ve had it a few months the strings seem to have settled in now; they’re brighter, have better balanced volume between each string (a mild issue before with my GDAE arrangement); they hold their tuning more consistently too.

Many people love the traditional look and “tinkly” tone of a soprano uke, while other players may prefer the extra bass, volume, and sustain offered by the larger concert and tenor sizes. They're an absolute bargain, and you're dead right about Aquilas being the right strings for a Dolphin.I want to graduate myself to a more expensive Kala, but until I can afford that, I am perfectly happy with my Makala.

My final verdict is that if you like the Dolphin’s unique design and interesting color options, it’s a reasonably good uke for the money. On tone alone if I were a newcomer to ukulele it would be the Dolphin, if I were to take looks into account it would be the MK-S. com/p/beanstalk-arts-beginners-ukulele-course-for-kids-and-their-families, but to claim this offer, you need to purchase the ukulele here and you’ll be sent a voucher to enable you to register for the course, whoop! If you're really serious about learning the ukulele and want to learn at a much faster pace then I'd highly recommend checking out these ukulele ebooks. The Makala MK-S from Kala is a decent ukulele that I would recommend to anyone looking to get started on a budget. I’m probably being a little bit over critical of the Makala here though and overall it isn’t bad sounding ukulele. The Agathis wood choice delivers a traditional balanced tone with a dark appearance that is very classy in a world of brightly coloured beginner ukes. musste sie bestimmt 10 mal nachstimmen, aber damit habe ich gerechnet, die Saiten sind eben aus Kunststoff.
