About this deal

Limmy gives us a frank insight into some of his history and the coinciding battles and experiences with his mental health. The best parts of the autobiography, therefore, are the parts where he talks about feeling weird, different, like a fuck-up, but also when these are juxtaposed with the normal facts of life like getting a job, having sexual or romantic troubles (and successes), not getting on with your flatmate, and trying not to become destitute.

I found myself reminiscing on my own childhood and adolescence at many points, and laughing heartily at many others. In 2014, Limmy had a regular segment in the second series of the Charlie Brooker news satire show Weekly Wipe.If you have all this nonsense in your head when you’re in a job somewhere, I would have people shaking their heads at me. Limmy has also engaged in various other pursuits, such as writing several books and performing live shows. It's about being strange in a normal, subclinical* way: intrusive thoughts, groundless anxiety, reduced affect display, auditory hallucination, mild paranoia, misanthropy, hysteroid dysphoria.

Because, as well as being a compelling first-person account of living with mental health issues, Surprisingly Down to Earth is, as the title promises, very funny. I expected this to just be some f-ing nutter out of touch comedian trying to cash in on his 15 minutes, but was pleasantly surprised by how down to earth he was.Your response to the title of this autobiography will likely mirror your wider opinion on the work of Brian Limond, the Glaswegian comedian known as Limmy. He has long been candid about his struggles with mental health, and spoken at length in interviews of overcoming alcoholism while in his 20s. Limmy appeared on Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast in 2015, [27] 2017, [28] and 2020. We might not be living through a golden age for TV sketch shows just now, but Limmy’s Show was a brilliant one. In 2017, the BBC commissioned what was then a one-off special of Limmy's Homemade Show, which was broadcast in April 2018.

One thing that might help to stave off that impending doom is Limond’s decision to stop writing for the foreseeable future and focus on his other passion instead: trucking. A lot of us go through life eminently unsure of what we’re doing; we feel lost and lonely in our lostness.Regularly spotted riding his bike around Glasgow, he is happy with his lot and that includes the decision to leave his old Limmy’s Show characters hanging in the wardrobe department. it's definitely a very interesting read and I certainly recommend the audiobook version of not just this book but all of his previous books - It always adds a extra level of depth to hear him speak the words, and he's brilliant at it. Following the death of nightclub owner Peter Stringfellow, his tweet was mistakenly reported as a genuine tribute by Sky News. He’s also the author of the Nigel Kneale biography Into the Unknown and co-author (with Dr Mark Aldridge) of the Russell T Davies biography T is for Television .
