About this deal

I quickly removed them from the plate and prayed that I wouldn’t get sick from this AND the rancid beef noodle soup. I did like the thick slices of beef mixed in, but next time I’ll stick with the regular beef noodle soup. but since there are no descriptions, it’s hard to know if there’s meat or fish hidden in there somewhere. I often get questions from readers asking for a recommendation for Taiwanese food, especially Taiwanese style beef noodle soup and hand pulled noodles. When the flour and water batter is ready to use, you need to pour it into a shallow tray (a few spoonful at a time) then leave the tray floating on boiling water to steam.

In a food processor with the blade attachment, put in ginger, garlic, peanut butter or tahini, soy suace, rice vinegar, sugar, sesame seeds and chili paste. Cook Chinese cinnamon (cassia cinnamon), star-anise, bay leaf, fennel seeds and Sichuan peppercorn in simmering water for a few minutes then leave to cool. The following day, spoon out the clear water that appears on top then steam the remaining paste little by little in shallow plates. For those of you who prefer dim sum at night, I believe there is a small selection on their dinner menu, so do feel free to mix and match. they open at 11am) and there were only a few parties waiting, Believe it or not, they put out a “sign in sheet” and make you put yourself on a “waiting list” and this is BEFORE they even open. But it made sense because Taiwan can get pretty darn hot in the summer and nobody wants to eat a hot bowl of noodles when the humidity and outside temperature is at its peak.

I keep hearing these hero stories of Toronto’s char siu rice from my cousins, London just doesn’t have quite the same depth or variety. In addition, I like the idea of “spiced water (香料水)” which is widely used for Liang Pi in the region where I grew up (the centre of Gansu province in China). One interesting thing about the chain is that they serve the noodle soup in these large metal bowls. Sadly, it wasn’t and to add insult to injury, the whole thing tasted rancid from the broth to the tendon. While there are quite a few servers walking around, most of them appear to be brand new at being servers and were often forgetful.

Actually, I was surprised the noodles were served cold, which is a rarity especially with East Asian food. I don’t think that everything is amazing, based on the evidence from my visit, I believe most are of decent quality. But the good news is that many of my childhood (or hometown) related foods can easily be cooked at home.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Some of the yolk was also made into a runny juice with grainy bits of what I suspect are the egg white.

Parking: Shared lot that’s pretty tiny, but there’s decent turnover, so you can usually squeak into a spot that someone’s pulling out of. Now I consider myself a bit of a beef noodle soup connoisseur, so when I say this is one of my favorite beef noodle soup joints you know it’s legit. And since there are so many of them, it’s not hard to flag another one down and repeat your request.
