About this deal

As accurate as the 8400's are, their closed-back design inevitably leads to a slight boxiness and constrained quality in certain high-end sounds.

Like the other reviewer noted, I would've preferred a coiled cable by default (the provided cable has sufficient length, but because of that it is easily tangled). By all accounts I've read online, the 8400's stood up well to heavy use, and I'd assume the 8402's should do the same. Though built with transparency and honest reproduction in mind, the closed back design and upgradable cable lengths make them well suited to tracking and editing, or any situation where isolation is important. The closed-back, circumaural (“around the ear”) design provides up to 30 dBA of isolation, which significantly reduces headphone “bleed” into the microphones when recording. We don’t do any stress tests and very few models are used for longer than a couple of days, so this is a fairly subjective score.Comfort wasn’t an issue for any of the testers so while KNS8400 are not the most comfortable studio headphones out there, with short breaks they can be worn for hours. THD almost exclusively consists of 3rd harmonic distortion which in other cases may mean nasty audible artifacts, however, THD reaches a somewhat meaningful figure only at about 35 Hz that translates to distortion at about 105 Hz which although is well into the audible spectrum, doesn’t produce perceivable artifacts. Two main factors that contribute to this are the aforementioned high-mid boost and the elevated bass that extends up to about 300 Hz and is followed up by an abrupt dip at 400 Hz.When I bought my 8400's, I did not have a headphone monitoring solution and instead relied on my Ultrasone HFI-780's if I needed cans.

My impression of the KRKs is that they are no-frill, professional monitors at an affordable cost (not paying for any gimmicks). In contrast, the KNS 8402 has a more extended and beautifully smooth high frequency response, very usable low frequency extension, a slightly subdued lower mid range and a present but not hyped upper mid range. To repair the inner wire with these seems like a stupid configuration with holes etc the wire has to go through and still withstand friction from hard plastic pivoting on it. With a maximum SPL of 124 dB, they're capable of providing all the level you'll ever need while remaining clear and detailed sounding, with very low distortion. Other than that these KRK’s are good, there isn’t much bad to say about them, but they don’t really excel in anything either. We advise you to update to a currently supported browser (such as Chrome, Edge, or Firefox) to improve your security, speed, and overall experience. I've owned an expensive pair of Grado headphones for a while now, but as wonderful as they sound, their hi-fi credentials make them poorly suited to mixing, and as such I've only used them as as a last resort when monitoring wasn't possible. Back then our aim was straightforward - provide technology products and services to the education, music, television and film markets.

You can then choose which finance term you'd like to apply for, and change your deposit if you wish. Thanks to their unrivalled comfort and their ability to deliver accurate sound with all the details intact, we have no doubt that you will begin to run into KRK KNS 8400 headphones in an increasing number of professional studios. KRK Headphones provide a precise listening experience that takes you from personal studio to commercial studio to on-the-go track evaluations -- and they allow you to evaluate and enjoy your music with the consistent voicing philosophy and honest reproduction top producers and engineers have come to trust. Switching between them and the KNS 8400s a few times was a great help in making the mids solid and full, yet not too bright or harsh. Whether you are listening to some tracks, or tracking your next recording, the KNS8400 gives you the famous KRK sound independent of your monitors. While they can't complete in terms refinement or natural sound in comparison to expensive hi-fi headphones, this is surely beside the point.
