About this deal

I believe they are very thematic, they’ll inspire your imagination and along with the artwork, they’ll make you want to play the game.

If a player goes before you, they are going to raze your “spend three different resources for three points” Building each round. This notion of “plan quick and act fast” pretty much perfectly encapsulates Empires of the North for me. So let’s move back to planning out part, in particular, choosing expansion cards that we would want to include in our deck.

In the Lookout Phase, players draw another Faction card, and then a quick card selection is performed where each player will receive another 2 Common cards. We did bump into Mike Barnes from Who Dares Rolls on the way to this meeting, which just proves that if something can go wrong: Mike Barnes. As four cards are available at the start of the round to either conquer or pillage, players can see what is available and decide if one really fits into their strategy. The Romans have a card that lets them turn a worker into a raze token, and another that lets you spend two workers to just remove an enemy building (including otherwise invulnerable faction buildings). When razing an opponent’s location, it costs 2 raze tokens (or 3 if a player has placed his Defense token on the location), and the opponent flips over his razed location, turning it into a Foundation. Finally, at the bottom of the card is an area which describes one of the actions that is available to all players at any time during their turn. At the start of the game, place the Exploration Tiles near the score track so that all 4 are visible. As you might be able to discern, Empires of the North is a wonderfully spun yet simple engine builder.

And if you are going to sail off and conquer a land why not go to one of the Distant Lands which are by far the more bountiful. Lookout phase: Each player draws 4 cards from their clan deck and players must spend a worker for each card they wish to keep. Each card you build has to be weighed against its value – that quarry built in turn one is worth six stone over the course of the game. See, the thing about Imperial Settlers is that it a game that is only about engine building, and it needs players to understand their engine the same way a racing diver might. g. do you play it once and then you know what will happen so if you replay it then you would already know what happens?Of the five favour tokens available at the start of each round, we tended to use the same ones depending on player count, with a couple of them never being used at all, so competition is high for certain ones that seem more powerful and these can be pretty integral at certain points in the game.

If the cards you are wanting are at the bottom of the deck, there usually isn’t much way to dig them out.It takes a minimum of two raze tokens to destroy an enemy’s building, and you usually won’t have that. We actually had to look these up on BGG where the same questions had already been asked and discussed so it wasn’t just us at least. Or you can use actions to harvest from any of the fields to which you can access using a bridge that has been completed.
