About this deal

The adult flies feed on fungus but they lay eggs in soil and the resulting larvae feed on plant roots. It's ideal for use with ornamental and nursery plantings in greenhouses or potting soil mixtures, as well as vegetable plants such as tomatoes, leafy and cole crops, cucumbers, peppers, and eggplants.

Gnatrol WDG Biological Larvicide is a highly selective, biological larvicide for use in greenhouses to control fungus gnat larvae. They especially threaten seedlings and immature plants and can even cause massive plant death in severe infestations. Gnatrol is now available in a water dispersible granule (WDG) formulation that will not leave a residue and is easier to measure for increased application accuracy. Over the course of the following few weeks I added plants and seeded with dwarf white isopods and springtails. It's a substance that's deadly to mosquito larvae (as well as larvae of blackflies, midges, and fungus gnats). These pests thrive on both new and existing plant roots and cause widespread damage in a short time.

The best way to deal with insects is to use clean soil, don't overwater, and use other preventive measures. Gnatrol WDG is a larvicide and will not control adult gnats, therefore, application must be timed for a stage of development when larva are present in the soil. I still see and squash one or two gnats every few days, but the problem seems to be a lot more under control. It sounds a little nasty, but every morning I'd see new gnats buzzing around in the bag and then squash them.It was actually discovered in 1976 in Israel from scientists who isolated the bacteria from dead mosquito larvae. After all, the point of growing these plants is for me to clear the air, and the last thing I need is for my plants and soil to be poisoning me. As I said earlier the product/chemical used in the study cited is NOT the product/bacterium I was referring to. Apply it to the top 2 inches of soil as a drench every 5 days until the adults are not flying around anymore.

There was also no interaction effect of insecticide and hybrid found for any of the species evaluated. Gnatrol WDG Biological Larvicide is now available in a water dispersible granule (WDG) formulation that will not leave a residue and is easier to measure for increased application accuracy. Here's the cool thing about it--because humans, animals, birds, and fish have acidic and not alkaline digestive tracts, the Bti toxins don't have any effect on us. Chlorine levels in potable water supplies should not present a problem with Gnatrol WDG performance). These are also common factors of wilted plants and may not necessarily indicate a larval infestation.

Gnatrol WDG Biological Larvicide provides fungus gnat control on indoor ornamentals and plantscapes. I thought I had a clever trap: Putting a screen lid and an elevated sticky sheet above so the gnats go through the screen and get stuck. I finally have them under control in my houseplants using Gnatrol ( bacillus thuringiensis ) a bacterial larvicide, and am working up the nerve to use it in the millipede tank. I put a fresh set of yellow sticky traps over each plant to see how effective the treatment will be.
