I installed a Kreg plate in the router table extension and since my Dewalt router has both a plunge and fixed base, the fixed base is attached to the router plate. If you expect to get lots of use out of the table, making a laminate top would make the table top last longer that an un-laminated top. For even smaller jobs you can just fasten the router upside down in a vice and work right off the router's base plate, using the edging guide as a fence if necessary.

To grip the top in the Workmate base, I attached a pair of clamp blocks wider than my router on the underside of the top. A pair of adjustable extruded aluminium in and out-feed fences can be opened and closed allowing the use of a wide range of cutters (not recommended for panel raising or large cutters). The first thing you need though is the plastic base material if you trim router does not come with a square base .
