About this deal

Filling slightly into the reservoir helps prevent an air gap above the coffee at the end of the pull. To eliminate cylinder separation at the end of the pull, make sure you avoid an air pocket by filling the brew water as you prepare your shot, until it starts to fill the reservoir at the top of the piston. When you tighten the portafilter onto the group, the top rim seals against a gasket and it locks in place. With the PRO this is mostly the case, but with substantial pressure there can be some skipping of the piston inside the cylinder.

The PRO 2 is also easy to clean, with a patented removable brew head, portable, with a custom carrying case, and covered by a 5-year limited warranty from the manufacturer. I'm using 16g of coffee for 40g of liquid in case of lighter roast and 16g of coffee for around 36/37g of liquid in case of the darker ones.Like any traditional manual lever, the Flair Signature PRO requires fresh ground coffee with appropriate fineness, particle size and dose. More information will be provided via your personal e-mail address once you've completed your purchase. This disengagement at the end of the pull can be eliminated entirely by watching the pressure gauge to make sure all pressure is released, as I'll show below.

I have a large Rattleware knockbox for discarding grounds and an electronic scale that measures to 0. Also, when you pour into the brew head and allow some water to go into the well, you virtually eliminate any air gap, and with that, you eliminate spongy pulls that can be challenging to overcome in some closed boiler levers. I like the containment of the piston within the cylinder, and the large pressure gauge with an adjustable angle. Add a few drops of water before pouring the beans into the grinder chute (Ross Droplet Technique, aka RDT, reduces static cling of the grounds).

Parts that are more subject to normal wear and tear, including but not limited to O-rings, Dispersion Screen, Silicone Sleeves, Piston Stem, and Portafilter are warranted against defects in material, design or workmanship for one (1) year from the purchase date, although these items are expected to last beyond the warranty. Minimum" was targeting approximately 175°F/79°C as needed for some dark roasts (some of which brew well at "standard" shot temperatures of 202°F/94°C. Preheat cylinder, second fill (if needed): Turn the cylinder upside down over the sink to drain it, and refill with hot water. Flairpresso refuses the screen itself, which could be pressed out and in very simple, and coud be sent in a small letter, slipping unnoticed through any custom.

I'll get into comparing grinders later, but anyone who has a grinder that's producing repeatable and tasty espresso shots with another machine should find that adequate to the PRO. I was surprised to find that brew water temperature declined gradually whether the group was preheated or not, as long as the water poured in was hot enough that it exceeded the absorption capacity of the metal.Another group are hybrid coffee machines that create pressure by boiling water or simply filter coffee. If you really want to duplicate a shot of espresso that you get from a high-quality espresso maker, the Flair will get you there. After a rough start, loads of practice and falling deeply in love with the PRO 2, I can safely say this wonderful machine exceeded all my expectations. Add 70ml of boiled water and a dose of up to 24 grams to yield up to a 56 ml shot with beautiful crema.

As someone that pays close attention to dialing in espresso, this made the task with the Flair extremely challenging: I almost could not adjust one variable at a time, and it was often easy to choke the machine or produce gushers with what felt like only a small window for a good shot in between. The Flair PRO 2 is made from durable materials like cast aluminum and stainless steel, so you can be sure your manual espresso maker, by Flair, is built to last. My vintage Trosser box grinder works with my Arrarex Caravel lever, but it won't adjust fine enough for the PRO.Over complicated by the dosing and grind fineness, but also the pages and pages of discussion online about how best to get it temp stable and the extra steps needed to get the most from it. Prepare coffee puck; dose, distribute, and tamp: Set the funnel over the portafilter, add coffee grounds, stir with a probe (WDT mixes particle sizes that differ from start to finish with a single-dosing grinder). Silicone o-rings instead of a more traditional flaired piston gasket allows the o-rings to slightly skip within the cylinder. The keys to minimizing the jittering and cylinder displacement are sufficient dose, avoiding creation of an air pocket above the coffee, sufficient time for preinfusion under low pressure, and a consistent pressure profile during the pull, without extra pumps or letting up while the brew chamber is under pressure. If you start to encounter channeling or sprites, ease up on lever pressure by 1 - 2 bar for at least a second or two to allow the coffee to more fully infuse before bearing down again.
