About this deal

also acknowledged that FertileFibre Original Seed and Multipurpose Composts are worth considering for young plants as well as for sowing seeds. Richard our Horticulture Therapist did some tests – we have phtos of the results, and lo, the stuff is heavily acid. It was at this time Robert approached W L Dingleys for help in producing an organic nutrient and with Bob Ubenski assigned to the task, it was not long until the right nutrient was identified and production started. With the help of the late great Geoff Hamilton they were able to make, trial and analyse different recipes until they had the right combinations for production of the three original Fertile Fibre mixes - Seed, Multipurpose and Potting. I've been rehydrating mine and unless the chips are actually sitting in water, the chips are relatively dry.

I also think it might be possible that some of the companies producing ‘organic’ composts for the amateur market may now be able to certify their products as, for at least one the problem was that they were using food waste in an in-vessel composting system, which is no longer prohibited. Perhaps the seedlings don’t look as lush as some but they are certainly germinating, growing steadily and robust and at least he has not spent a fortune on plastic sacks shipped across the country/continent and creating big holes in our crop plans as well as pockets! Plus lots of us use ground phosphates which have a similar or even worse record for environmental destruction and unsustainability – we will enter a phosphate crisis in agriculture in the not too distant future! Courgettes love it, beans love it, most of my flowering plants really don't like it at all apart from Achilleas. This is a varied and interesting role which will include processing sales and office administration. Our all-organic, peat-free composts provide a solid growing base, but sometimes even the best quality garden compost needs a helping hand - delivered in the form of natural fertilisers. Both our Original Seed Compost and Original Multipurpose Compost have recently been named as 'Which? FertileFibre has been producing the best quality peat-free compost since 1992, and having two products named as Which? It must be really disheartening for all you growers to experience all these problems with peat free composts.

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing similar problems to us with FF products though it is reassuring that it the problems with poor germination etc aren’t solely down to us. We use Klassman for blocking and the WRO has not performed well for us in this form, we have used the Klassman blocking compost for modules and potting as well and it seems to still outperform the others which claim to be purpose made for different applications. Have had a hit and miss spring with FF: I’ve had a few bags from about thjree different batches, and the first fine multipurpose was ok, but another batch was almost all fibre and no fertility… (and an odd smell too). Fully accredited by the Soil Association and tried and tested over many years, we’ve been championing organic, peat-free compost in the UK since 1992. This is a breeding ground for rot fungi and bacteria to occur, hence the reason why many of the problems you are experiencing.I was so happy to discover this, as I'd been looking for good quality, peat-free, vegan compost and I found it! I would use my own compost except I can't get Mr DS to turn the currently in use heap into the other heap for use, so it's been sitting there for about 3 years.
