It's been a while since I read a Dorothy Koomson book, but years ago I went through a phase of her and read everything I could and then her last couple I have struggled with.Macy is annoying as a character with untreated OCD and anxiety issues but obviously well enough drawn to provoke a reaction. We also use them to help detect unauthorized access or activity that violate our terms of service, as well as to analyze site traffic and performance for our own site improvement efforts. The narrative is fast-paced and kept me wanting to read on, and I love the element of mystery interwoven with topics around family, friendship and secrets. His lips drew back as he loaded more of his poison-tipped words into his bow, ready to fire them at me.

My only regret is that I read it so soon after getting it so that I now probably have another years wait for another book from this superb author. This is not a traditional detective story or psychological thriller but a fascinating blend of the two, with a complex layer of emotional truth woven through it that asks more questions than it answers. Someone is hell-bent on the truth not coming out, seeming to know all her next steps and her paranoia increases. I was totally surprised by how everything played out and commend the author on her great writing and characterisation. Dark secrets are being kept and we wonder when skeletons are going to come tumbling about- and where!

Quem como eu segue a escrita da Dorothy Koomson, repara que desde o último livro "A Amiga", a sua forma de escrita tem mudado, tendo-se evidenciado neste livro. With someone seemingly intent on stopping Nell in her tracks she is thrust into a race against time to uncover a killer watching her every move and putting her and her family in danger. Para além da Nell gostei imenso da sua irmã a Macy, apesar de ser uma personagem que a certo momento torna-se irritante e começámos a desconfiar dela. I thought that was so jokes, and I really needed that moment to be able to exhale everything else that had been happening. It was a captivating mystery full of twists and turns and very well written and fresh, unique, quality storyline .I stormed through this book in a day as I couldn't put it down until the secrets contained in the twisty plot revealed themselves. There are a lot of subplots in the book, too, including racial tensions between Nell and Macy's family, and the Police. Twenty-five years later Macy is in a relationship and has three children while Nell quits her job to finally find out more about the mermaids and Jude. The book simmers with tension throughout, the depth of character and the intricately woven and ever changing relationship add a darkness to what is an excellent story. years on, and Nell is still desperate to discover the identity of the lady labelled as the 'Brighton Mermaid'.
