About this deal

I purchased this at Manchester airport, the final stop of an Incredible String Band tour of Birmingham, Liverpool, Northampton, Cambridge, Oxford, Leichester, Beverly, New Castle, and Edinburgh to learn more about Billy Connolly, and more about his friendship with Robin Williamson. His life is a seemingly infinite wellspring of incident, all of which he’s commendably frank and open about. He was wearing what he would describe as a 'windswept and interesting' outfit, "leather jodhpurs and a leather jacket.

His own musical background - both as a solo artist and a member of The Humblebums - formed a fascination with the link between music and fashion, with Billy explaining: "Maracas were very popular in the 1950s and 60s to allow a signature look, and to leap around.

Due to his debilitating illness, the poor old bloke is so obviously struggling to read and articulate his thoughts, it is simply too sad for me to listen to. Documentaries, Hollywood films, and TV shows were aplenty as well countless stand-up appearances, but following a Parkinson's and cancer diagnosis the much-loved comic's live performances were to come to an end. In 2007 and again in 2010, he was voted the greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4's 100 Greatest Stand-Ups. There is a lot of swearing – and while that can jar somewhat when seen on paper, it fits so perfectly with Billy Connolly’s personality, and his Glaswegian upbringing. There are no universal rules, however, Billy has written his own, and as far as inspirational quotes to live by go, these top the lot.

And that’s what comes across in this book too, his first full-length autobiography, told entirely in his own words. In 2007 and again in 2010, he was voted the greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups. Being from Glasgow myself, I identify with a lot of his upbringing and his experiences of living there; it's the best place in the world. A brilliant biography, all the more insightful for being written by Billy's wife and a psychologist no less! Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.

In chapter 20 of this meandering memoir comedian Billy Connelly admits to not writing but dictating this book into his phone. This is in spite of many difficulties experienced in childhood including physical and sexual abuse and a later problem with drinking (no doubt caused by this trauma).Metal Sculptor based in Long Bennington, Lincolnshire, using recycled materials to create sculptures for your garden or indoor decoration. We would all then listen intently and laugh until we cried or my dad swerved the car from laughing so hard. It seemed impossible for her to mention where they were without stating the famous people they spoke to at another famous person's party, who they spent time with at dinner parties and even which famous person one of their children was sick over on a plane .

They say the best comedians have a background of sadness and perhaps this is true - it certainly appears to be in Billy's case, something his psychologist wife and biographer states herself more than once in the book. Naturally I needed a copy in every format I could find but the audiobook is going to be an absolute treat; I can’t wait to hear his laughter. I think Billy Connolly is a gifted comedian and a decent actor, and I have enjoyed his 'on the road' documentaries too. There was certainly plenty in the book which made me laugh, often stories I’ve heard him tell on tv shows.Famous people will hang about with other famous people, just as you will hang about with the people that you have things in common with or work with. It was quite strange that you could almost hear Billy’s voice as you read it, which added to the humour. He also tells hilarious bits from his comedy shows, behind the scene info on movies, and is generally just someone you would love to sit down with and talk to- and that's what this book feels like.
