About this deal

Taken from the ancient Roman and Greek word for owl, Strix means the keenest hearing and sharpest eyesight. The GTX 970 isn't up to the task of gaming at that resolution (at least not with cutting-edge titles and high settings).

That's a significant lead, to be sure, but not huge given that the GeForce GTX 970 DirectCU Mini card is so much more affordable. STRIX drives DirectCU technology further with 0dB-fan technology that lets you enjoy games like League of Legends and StarCraft in complete silence. In other words, if the GTX 970 DirectCU Mini doesn't deliver the performance you need out of the box, you should probably save up for an R9 Nano, or consider getting a larger case that can accommodate a larger, more-powerful graphics card like the GTX 980 or AMD's R9 Fury line.

Bought mine some days ago, just got it 2 day, installed it, tried first with 100Mhz extra, as I saw Jay2Cent run it at 1500Mhz without any problems, mine took the 100 while staying at 53c, dropped 50Mhz on top, stayed at 53c, and ran test without any problems, but one thing is benchmark's, another games, will c how it do, so fare no OV or MEM OC. VR is a game changer for games such as Elite Dangerous, Portal 3, Flight simulator, Project cars and who knows the elusive Half Life 3 may make an appearance from Valve as being VR optimised, lets keep our fingers crossed.

I suppose a fourth option would be to strap a low-profile CPU cooler onto this, although that would likely mean rigging up an entirely custom mounting solution - not to mention the extra cost.

Multiple product codes can be mapped to one mother product data-sheet if the specifications are identical. None the less, Nvidia has moved forward and today the 2 nd Maxwell based products (GTX 750 was actually the first trial) are being released as GM204 based GPUs. Works really well for high end games like GTA V, Tomb Raider personally never ever see an FPS drop at all. In our look at the GTX 980 last week, we were left thoroughly impressed, but little did we realize at the time, the GTX 970 – and ASUS’ Strix edition in particular – was about to impress us even more.
