About this deal

i feel it was used for shock value and though it worked, it took any positive thoughts i had on the book and shredded them to bits. He becomes obsessed with Cora almost immediately and the things he does while not right are what he needed to do to get what he wanted. She’s more than just an assistant, so if I hear you proposition her for sex again, I’ll have you fired and chased out of this fucking town.

Like everyone else, I get weak for the boy-obsessed trope, and Alaistar served it so hard here hehe 🤭.

Long long story short, I’m disappointed in the execution of this book considering her other previous books in the series ATE! Right, let's begin by saying that this book is NOT marketed as a retelling, however, is noted as being inspired by the myth of Apollo and Daphne. mc even acknowledges wishing she did more and validated his issues more and stuff so she KNEW they were there. Now, that's okay since it's not marketed as such, however, I did have high hopes for the end of this series given how strong the first 2 books were. Now, despite her disdain for the dirty politician, she’s entwined their lives so tight that escaping seems unlikely.

Ugh she was such a strong fmc that literally frustrated and amazed me with how hard headed she could be sometimes. there was a plot twist wannabe at the end, but how can there be a plot twist when there’s no plot at all? the marshal being written as one of the main mlm characters and being the villian is weird to me idk.And then of course, it’s like the stereotypical enemies to lovers vibes where they claim to hate each other but are fucking each other brains out like there’s no tomorrow. In saying that, my job is to see if there is any connection throughout the writing to the specified ancient mythology at all.

We met Alistair Wolfe in the previous book, Oaths and Omissions (his brother Jonas’s book) so I was so hyped to read his book and see what kind of trouble he gets into. One thing leads to another and they’re fucking up against a brick wall and he’s talking about impregnating her… and he don’t even know ms girls name🥲. the were find of dropped and used before it was really apparent to the reader that it was even a serious issue and possibly. Alistair and Cora meet one random night at a bar he owns and he notices her taking the waitress’s tips.the way he was so caring and soft for cora🥹 i was indifferent towards his character in oaths and omissions and wow did i underestimate this man! Instead, Cora (who is so irresistible but SO unappealing to me) goes round and round with Alastair keeping him at arms length even until the last line of the epilogue. every time i read her books i swear the female characters do nothing for me, i can never connect with them.
