An Athame for God (also used for any cutting of items during ceremonies and rituals) – again, you can grab a knife out the kitchen drawer and wrap the handle with string, ribbon or scrap leather or fabric to make it more special. An altar for that purpose can remind you to give thanks, and it can also be a visual reminder of all the goodness that your are blessed with. I believe every witch should have a pentacle somewhere on the altar, whether it is in the form of a disc for putting candles, spells, etc, like the ones amongst the Green Witch products, or as an offering dish of some kind.

This is consecrated jewellery worn during circle work, magickal work and during the full moon and Sabbats.Fire is represented by candles – nightlights make up the working light (I don’t use electricity if I am working at the altar) and candles are burnt to represent whatever work I am doing. In some traditions, elaborate altars are built to honor ancestors on a particular day, like Dia de los Muertos. Think of your altar as the focal point of your witch practice: it's where you set your intentions, hear from and connect with your deity, and work with the energy you're working with and channeling. A religion/spirituality dating back over a century, there’s a lot of history and especially a lot of variations when it comes to Wicca.

Some may even choose to have an item for each element such as something from nature for earth, a candle for fire, incense for air, and shells or blessed water for water.There are tons of herbal and plant friends that can be used for clearing as well as many other properties, like Mugwort for dreams, Rosemary for protection, Lavender for calm, Sages (yes, there are way more sages out there beyond just white sage) for purifying, Mints for healing, Roses for love, and many more. You can do this by saying a short blessing like, I dedicate/consecrate this space in the name of (insert your deity/ancestor/spirit guide here). Carefully and consciously we tend to our altars and turn them into rivers of magic, always full, always flowing.
