About this deal

I did an audio test video with a comparison between the HD1 and MD-380, if you want to hear what it sounds like in action. Of course it could be that the firmware uses 0x29 and (0x29+1) thus making it hard to find where in the binary is setting the frequency. They are still working to fix any remaining bugs and add new features to this radio, albeit painfully slowly. To me this is a fairly minor issue, since you're not looking at the screen most of the time, but it’s one that does seem to annoy a lot of people. Speaking of the user database, that's another feature this radio has because it was designed for hams.

I bought two of these to use to scan my local law enforcement frequencies and also use as a communication method with other people like my employees as I do hold an Industrial Business Pool license to operate these in the business band and the fact that these are also FCC certified for that given that you set it up correctly. There’s also a demo of the radio working on both DMR and FM in my HD1 front panel programming video. Since DMR is a commercial standard, normally DMR radios would only hear the talkgroups they have been programmed to listen for.The speaker on the HD1 is the best one I’ve seen in a handheld radio, super loud and really good quality audio, you will never struggle to hear this radio that’s for sure!

We remember the voices, so if you mess around, later come back as licensed operator you'll be recognized. The microphone on the radio works very well and the people that I have spoken to have said my audio is very clear and some of the best they have heard.Programming code plugs for digital repeaters can be a bit confusing but there is a lot of information on the web to help. Once I got past this, I programmed it using the primitive Retevis software that will not allow you to paste in any data from any other source so you have to type in every digit of every frequency. The buttons on the radio are very tactile and have a really nice feel to them, I can tell that a lot of thought has gone into this radio and looks like it will outlive me!

Programming was pretty straightforward with the included programming cable and downloadable CPS software from Retevis. I set up my pi star hotspot, and my interface is up but I can’t seem to figure out where to go from here. Ailunce is the HAM specific division of Retevis and there are many HAM features that set this radio apart from radios that are simply commercial radios modified for HAM use. The site will stand above all other ham radio sites by employing the latest technology and professional design/programming standards, developed by a team of community programmers who contribute their skills to the effort.Note: If you plug the programming cable into the computer and the device manager displays "USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM4)", it indicates that your programming cable is a new version. Although, so far, my use has been mostly receive only, the battery goes for days before needing a charge. Reviews that only state "Its great"or "Terrible product" are not helpful without more information why its great or terrible.
