The Adidas Adistar is a neutral shoe with a high level of guidance for those who want a rockered ride, a maximal stack height, and a softer midfoot and forefoot for easy and longer miles. The fact that adidas never tires of reinventing itself and keeping the standard of its running catalog at the top is something that no longer surprises us. The Adidas Adistar fits me true to size if slightly long (similar to many Adidas racing models recently) in my normal US men's size 10.

The heel counter shape is somewhat traditional, rather than one of those emulating footwear in the North Pole. The Adistar has a softer ride, more plush upper, and much more stable (likely due to the extra midsole width) ride, while the Shift is smoother and faster while being every bit as protective. What's more, even among stability shoes, only Hoka Gaviota 4 can beat this Adidas shoe in its width (115 mm in the forefoot and 103 mm in the heel). It is for the above reasons and more that the Adistar CS will work best for those with a short stride.The Adistar has a bigger toebox in both measurement points than already-wide shoes like the Hoka Gaviota 4 and the New Balance Fresh Foam X More v4! The Adistar easily wins the upper contest (especially in the toebox, but the feel and hold are also better), and I’d give it the slight edge in the midsole department. Jeff is the token slow runner of the RTR lineup, and as such his viewpoints on shoe and gear can differ from those who routinely finish marathons in three hours or less. The firmer Repetitor + (15% recycled foam) is only in the heel, with the softer Repetitor foam in the midfoot and forefoot. The cushioning is made up of two foams: under the mid and forefoot you have Repetitor, and then under the heel there’s a section of Repetitor+.
