About this deal

I can see how a second copy of this set could be converted easily into a Pipe Layer, similar to the Volvo one.

First I wasn’t very interested in this it, but after seeing your comparisons I want to have this selection on my shelf! This 2-in-1 LEGO® Technic™ Heavy-Duty Excavator (42121) toy has plenty of features for hours of creative play. The blue pin complaints do make more sense when applied to technic sets with a heavier aesthetic focus.

Whether it's a birthday, Christmas, or ‘just because' gift, young construction fans will love building and exploring this 2-in-1 LEGO® Technic™ Heavy-Duty Excavator (42121) toy set. Obviously, a fully transparent element would suit better, but I like to see the designers making the best of what they have available at the movement. Transparent Technic parts are rare, in fact I'm struggling to think of any others, so it would have been preferable to use System parts, or do what they normally do, which is to imply the windscreen by using flex tubes or axles to define its edges. Do you have more pictures of the build process, perhaps highlighting some of the newly-introduced pieces and the specific areas of neat design in this set?

Admittedly while yes having matched colours would look nicer trying to distinguish between two nigh identical black pins to see which one has which friction to use in a certain place would be a nightmare (or whether its a pin or axel on the other side from the one point of view in the instructions) so the colour identifiers massively speeds up and assists building. I imagine elements like this were one of the reasons for the switch to the new transparent plastic, and that we’ll be seeing them more and more. Featuring authentic details and working features, including a rotating cabin, articulated arm and shovel, this set is perfect for construction and building enthusiasts. Put it this way: people are complaining about the windscreen for much the same reason people are complaining about the blue pins. Also, there's not much yellow, which makes sense when you realize how much of the part volume goes into the arm and treads. I would also say that it is quite similar to the Lego Technic 42097 Compact Crawler Crane set that I reviewed earlier. If kids want to dig in Lego, they've probably got a box full of parts to dig in that'll work much better than a few pieces included here. Its surprisingly study as well and has survived many fights with my twins girls who are both fascinated with lego now. The product is also perfect for kids who like machinery and great for young minds to explore mechanics. This cool excavator toy for kids is ideal for boys and girls aged 8 and up who love construction vehicles.
