My favourite part of the book was when they were trying to defeat the spiders and Angelo is finding out what's happening. Living up to it’s name Dread Wood is a scary mystery book that captured me, it was so compelling, that the day I got it I finished it! Another of my favourite character's was the teacher Mr Canton who was supposed to be supervising the group during the detention, his attempts to be 'down with the kids' were both cringeworthy and hilarious.

Skillfully written, with a gorgeous cast of characters, great heart, and a moving and satisfying ending. I don't like these things in real life and they are smaller than I am so I was imagining this happening in real life and ugh it just gives me the chills thinking about it. I love when a horror keeps me guessing like this, and it was one of the reasons why I find it so hard to put this book down. I ended the book really loving all four of them, and I can’t wait to read more of the series to see more of their character arcs.Cliff hanger chapters, twists and turns, this is not for the feint hearted but it’s a thrill of a ride ( written for 9-12 year olds) A spooky horror story but full of friendships, secrets and the lesson that honesty may be hard but it helps us work together.

She regularly visits schools and festivals, and her books have been selected three times for The Reading Agency\'s Summer Reading Challenge. Creepy things lurk in the shadows, indescribable nasties leap out when least expected and death, or worse, awaits anyone who dares to put a foot to the ground. As we get to know these characters we are reminded there is always a reason behind brash behaviour, or those who prefer to be invisible.

Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. They all have their demons, their fears, their regrets, their guilt, and I really enjoyed reading about each of their stories because I found it made them very relatable, human and above all, very endearing. Not only did the group of children in this story get detention, but they got a Saturday morning detention, which turns out to be a day from hell.

It doesn’t do any one thing especially well and it has its flaws, but the package as a whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The initial plot of this book reminded me of 'One of us is lying' with 4 students in detention and no mobile phones. One thing is for certain though…I will never be able to hear Incy Wincy Spider in the same way again. It meant that I got to enjoy reading their friendships build and them learning each others strengths under… extremely creepy stress. And then later we find out something even more important and I just wanted to shake them even harder. From the get-go I was instantly pulled into the sinister surroundings of Dread Wood High, and its creepy inhabitants. I'm really looking forward to seeing the gang in future books, with the promise of an unusual app / hide and seek game in the next book.

They are chucked into this wild race-against-time plot where everything goes wrong and the impossible happens, and that brings them closer. The whole plot is twisted and the fact that giant spiders wont attack by singing a nursery rhyme is weird but in a good way . Each of our protagonists was brilliantly developed and we saw each of them grow both as individuals and as a team too. Strange things are happening in the town of Sticky Pines: odd lights in the sky, people disappearing, and now a huge, hairy creature is hanging out in the woods.I picked it up on a whim after seeing loads of reviews on the blog tour, and I’m so glad that I did.
