Each Boathouse has a spacious and airy open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen with a fireplace and bedrooms leading off this space. The difference is that there is a clear, bright line between the good guys and the bad guys, and no one has any trouble telling the two tribes apart.

Note: Milkwood cottage and Garden cottage are surrounded by milkwood trees so they don't have the lagoon view and are a bit darker inside.

Explore on foot, quadbike or kayak; swim in the lagoon, one of two pools, or dip into the bracing Atlantic – untouched Walker Bay Beach, overlooking the most important whale nursery in Africa, is a few minute’s drive from Coot Club (best done as part of a Coot Club sundowner outing). The living room is at the front, complete with sliding glass doors onto the deck, sofa, and a Smart TV. It's a good story though - interesting how the town children, Dick and Dorothea, have to prove themselves able to cope with, in this case, learning to row and sail (on water this time) and be accepted into a new group of children. While I think Arthur Ransome's books are generally a good guide to how things should be done (around boats and some other practicalities) surely you should never feed a dog chocolate?
