About this deal

I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes memoir-style books, light-hearted reads about parenting young children, and anyone who is a fan of Meet the Richardsons. What I adored most about this book is Beaumont’s pure honesty about being a mother. It’s confusing, stressful and so so so tiring. As a mother to four boys (NO MORE) I can strongly relate to those long 9 months of pregnancy, the unexpected change of the birthing plan and the endless night feeds. Now that Elsie is at school and life has calmed down Beaumont has had the time to look at her diary and work out what actually happened over the last five years. And WOW dear reader, it is certainly like nothing I have ever read before. My face ached from smiling and giggling at how beautifully embarrassing and real life can be. I loved the interruptions by Jon in the footnotes, together they made this book a joy to read. Lucy tried her hand at many different jobs before her comedy career took off. She first worked at the meat counter of Asda on Hessle Road, West Hull and then went on to get a degree in drama at the university of Hull. Since Gill Adams makes multiple appearances with Lucy and Jon, many have a suspicion about whether she is her real mum. Gill also appears as Lucy's mum in the hist UKTV show, Meet The RIchardsons.

She made it to the final. The following year, she won the BBC New Comedy Award. When she took her debut show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014, it was shortlisted for Best Newcomer. Her jokes found joy and the surreal in the everyday, moving between silly puns and surprising double punchlines with ease. "But I talk about crows landing on my head; I'm not a political comic, I just want to see how much laughter I get out of audience, but I really respect comics who have a political stance." Yes, I have thought about it. But we would kill each other. It would never get finished. One of us wouldn't be alive.’ Their Channel 4 panel show Odd Couples, in which Beaumont and Richardson pit two celeb couples against each other, builds on that with their charming squabbles at the heart of the humour. But Taskmaster might be the first time a lot of their fans will get to know Beaumont on her own – despite the fact she was an acclaimed actor, comedian and writer long before she got married. Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont on season four of Meet the Richardsons (Photo: Vishal Sharma/Dave UKTV) I’ll never tire of motherhood books that tell it like it is and I take a very dim view of those parenting manuals that assure you that baby should be running to your routine, will go down for a nap when you say, and go to bed when you say – especially when my youngest didn’t go to sleep unless he was being held FOR THREE YEARS.a b c d e f g Grieveson-Smith, Jess (12 April 2022). "Hullraisers' Lucy Beaumont from surprising stage fright to childbirth trauma". Huddersfield Daily Examiner. Huddersfield, England: Reach plc . Retrieved 13 April 2022. This book is subtitled “Diary of a Confused Mum”, and this truly is an account of the reality of becoming a parent, in all its bewildering, messy and downright daft detail. The author is a comedian and writer, and also married to Jon Richardson - the couple recently appeared in a comedy programme “Meet the Richardsons” - so there is huge amount of humour throughout, even if it is often self-deprecating. This is not a guide to parenting, though there is much that Beaumont feels she ought to offer to others in terms of advice, and those with experience of coping with life with a baby and small child will recognise a lot of the content. In 2019, Beaumont returned to the Edinburgh Festival with her show Space Mam, [27] which she also took on tour in the UK. The book charts, in chatty diary style from pre baby to first days at school and has this unique ‘thing’ where Lucy’s hubby ( Comedian John Richardson ) writes footnotes re various stories on how he remembers it or just adding his 2 pennorth in, it’s not all the time but it works really well

No, but the place she was renting before had a big gun safe. She found out the owners were small-time drug dealers. But she said it was helpful because takeaway delivery drivers were always on time because they were scared of them. What else appealed to both of you?Unfortunately, the comedy scene of the noughties was brimming with misogyny, with Beaumont recalling one reviewer writing detailed descriptions of her looks rather than her material. Beaumont is known for her observational comedy about her home city of Hull including the local dialect and food such as patties and chip spice. [9] Her on-stage persona delivers deadpan anecdotes and has been described as "ditzily naïve". [16] And then Jon’s stood there with this little dinosaur egg and he’s like ‘Oh great! What are you doing? If you grow up with that, they do help to inform you. It's very, very powerful," she adds, suggesting that too many channels today seem to avoid political comedy altogether . Her foray into comedy saw the stand-up enjoy a sharp rise in the British circuit, making it to the finals of So You Think You're Funny in 2011, and winning the BBC Radio New Comedy Award in 2012.
