About this deal

The following version of this book was used to create the guide: Score, Lucy. Things We Never Got Over. Bloom Books, 2022. As hinted at in the previous two books, Lucian and Sloane have a history and are arch-enemies. The two can barely stand to be in a room together without shooting insults and quips in one another’s direction. Lucy Score makes writing romance look so easy. This book hooked me from the very first chapter and just did not let go. this book is an abomination and deserves to be burned, so embarrassed i wasted my time reading this Grumpy, small-town barber + hopelessly romantic runaway bride = great big bust ups, all the tension and lots of steamy encounters!

Naomi and Knox are immediately attracted to one another but dance around their magnetism, as neither is looking for or desiring a relationship. As the story progresses, however, their connection is undeniable and they soon throw out all the rules they’ve set in place. Enter Lina, his new neighbor in town on assignment. She is a traveling large-claims insurance agent. She is a non-committal type who is a bit of a wild child and has no interest in settling down. heroine has the best gay best friend (1. why are the male best friends in romance always gay if they are not the love interest? 2. he is in the mafia or what are those mysterious business calls he always has to take??? 3. where is Stef’s book??!) The pacing was not for me. It was very insta-lovey just without them admitting it. I didn't feel the tension the characters were apparently experiencing and that really just turns me off the book. IF I DON'T FEEL THE TENSION, I DON'T WANT IT :)When Meg Koranda learns that her friend Lucy is having cold feet on her wedding day, Meg talks her into pulling a runaway bride moment, circa Julia Roberts. After all, she knows the town’s golden boy turned mayor Ted Beaudine is not the right person for her best friend. There’s just one problem. The jilted groom is none too happy about being left at the altar, and who better to punish than the instigator of the mess? Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert Nash is in a funk as the book begins as he is trying to heal both mentally and physically from a gunshot wound that occurred in the first book. He cannot seem to get his head on straight or enjoy what he previously did, not even his work. Since Naomi’s life imploded right in front of Knox, the least he can do is help her out of her jam. Just like the above sentence from this book, this isn't what readers like me too wanted. This was a strange book where the characters behaved in bizarre ways. The main characters, Naomi and Knox, are both above 35 years. Yet, they are acting like irritating kindergarten kids who are obsessed with actions similar to Disney characters in some parts of the book and like toxic, emotionally manipulating, and stalking characters in the other parts.

And the spice, well, if you like it… it’s very much there. This was, at its core, a romance of two unlikely people, and the witty supporting cast that surrounded them was more than entertaining. Oh Julia, but it's fiction. Give it a rest. I have a list of romantic comedies with sunshine and grumpy characters that were written like a damn masterpiece. This one is just bad, I am sorry. The heroine, I liked her, but I would have loved to see her more settled into her own and knowing exactly who she is and what she wants by the end of the book. She does make some decisions but I still feel like she lets the events that happened to her and the people in her life derail most of her individual and personal decisions. So why did I give it 3 stars? Because I think it’s well written and it could be an overall a good time for most people, objectively, this wasn’t an awful book, it definitely wasn’t what I would consider a good story but the elements were there.

Toys

Nooooooo, but that's not stereotypical enough. A sunshine character is quirky!!! She loves coffee! She can't remember where she parked her car! She is so entertaining!! Did I mention she LOOOOOOOOOOVES coffee? Oh I didn't? Don't worry, the author will make her groan and pout 22 times while she's thinking about coffee before chapter 10, and that is just soooooooooo sexy. This book is everything as comfy as you can feel !!! It’s light, it’s funny, it’s hot, has all tropes you can think of and it’s so well writing that you read in a blink of an eye and it’s totally impossible don’t love ALLLLL characters (not only the two main ones but all the supporting characters that are around them). the last point I’m gonna make but not necessarily the last thing that troubled me in this book, is that the heroine’s niece wasn’t given the proper story act that she needed. That was a child that was abandoned and she definitely had issues because of it - it’s just not possible otherwise and yet it felt like that whole situation was just used to give us an intro into the story but it wasn’t explored with the respect and dedication it needed to be. I actually would have loved to see that part play out, and I thought it was going to after reading the synopsis- but instead this veered into completely different grounds.

She cries to a complete stranger and asks him: please, help me, what should I do? 5 times in the first two chapters. The fact that a 40 year old man finds a broken shell of a woman attractive is a red flag of its own. Book two, Things We Hide from the Light, follows, in which Knox’s brother Nash gets his happy ending with Lina. They meet here, in book one. But I did know that sometimes a bad seed was just a bad seed. No matter what field it was planted in, no matter how it was tended, some just came up rotten.” Here we have runaway homeless bride appears in small town and conveniently gets everything handed to her by hero man child Knox & is told she is the best thing that ever happened to him ,even though she constantly gets herself in to trouble and needs things. He was Jekyll and Hyde, gaslighting and mistreating her over and over and yet she still fell in love. Then breaks her heart and leaves...just like he said he would, and has the nerve to sulk! Out of concern Nash asked his brother as to why he broke things off, and Knox replied with, “Problem...with you helping yourself to my leftovers? Nah. Better she didn’t go to waste.” I didn't really like Knox. I don't really have anything to say about him. He didn't stand out, was bland, was an idiot (LIKE FRL), and pissed me off. Waylay is such a good kid ! Smart, intelligent and witty that there’s no way you don’t fall in love with her and cheer for them to be happy … story. Easily the most sexually graphic book in the trilogy, Score punctuated the intense connection between these two characters with very raw, unfiltered interactions, both sexual and nonsexual, to help the reader really get a grasp of all they’re going through and have been through. Naomi wasn’t just running away from her wedding. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin only to have her evil twin steal Naomi’s car and cash, leaving Naomi with a niece she didn’t know she had.

Naomi and Knox have an interesting meet cute. When Naomi rolls into town with daisies in her hair she doesn’t expect the welcome she gets. See, her twin sister who is basically a menace to the town, asks for her help. When Naomi shows, she is, of course, mistaken for the twin. That lasts for a bit but ultimately she carves her own place out in town, along with her niece who she’s taking care of. The characters – adorable, HOT, hilarious. Side characters with such depth. I loved each and every one of these people and need ALL their stories. The writing- incredible. Flawless. I just loved the banter between Knox and Naomi so much. The dialogue was spot on with this one.

Diaries & Calendars

all of this combined feels like a lovechild between Mariana Zapata and Kristen Ashley and makes for a great comfort book = happy Phuong. Knox and Naomi get married, and Tina signs over custody of Waylay to the couple. They live in the main lodge while Liza J lives in the cottage that Naomi used to stay in. Knox and Naomi try to have babies of their own but prove to be infertile. The novel ends with them telling loved ones that they have adopted two little girls. Waylay has become an important part of their family, and most of the previously single characters have found a love interest. Well, technically he thought I was Tina [the twin sister] when he was yelling at me in front of an entire cafe full of strangers.”
