About this deal

When it’s unfolded it can shrink and expand every which way to fit a huge size range of kids – hence, the “hifold fit-and-fold” name. The mifold booster car seats conform to the most universally accepted global booster car seat regulations such as ECE R44.4 for the EU, and FMVSS 213 for the USA. Like the mifold comfort, the hiccapop Uberboost ( full review here) wasn’t ideal for our petite kids but could work well for bigger carpool buddies who sometimes ride with us. It’s another inflatable booster seat but gives a little more space for broader kiddos than the Bubblebum. It’s hollow inside so you can probably roll it small than this, and at 1lb 3oz it’s 6oz lighter than the mifold comfort. However, my kid hated the optional shoulder belt clip and won’t use the seat until he’s tall enough to avoid it. hiccapop Uberboost vs mifold: folded size mifold vs Graco RightGuide mifold is designed for children aged 4+ years. However, car seat regulations can be quite confusing and are different in each country; they can be based upon age, weight, height or a combination of all three. In the US and Canada, mifold is designed for children weighing from 40Ibs to 100lbs and between 40-59 inches tall for mifold Comfort and mifold Sport, and 40-57 inches tall for mifold Basic and mifold Original. mifold is a revolutionary car safety solution which is great for everyday use, but thanks to its compact portability can also be used on those occasions when a traditional booster seat is not available. Research shows that the correct child restraint is not used in about 25% of all child journeys (and that 50% of kids in the US don't have the right booster when carpooling for the school run). This is often because a bulky booster is inconvenient or unavailable. We want to eliminate these risks completely. With a compact and portable device, there are no excuses, a child can always be safe no matter whose car they are in. How is mifold the first innovation in booster seats for more than 50-years?mifold is a safe belt positioning booster seat that is available all the time. Unlike traditional bulky booster seats, a child can always be safe with the innovative mifold belt positioning device - no matter whose car they are in. There are just a few steps to prepare the mifold portable booster seat for use, but it’s important to follow them. Both mifold and hifold solve traditional booster challenges by being portable, compact and adjustable. These benefits drive our vision for keeping children safe on every journey, every time! The mifold Grab-and-Go booster seat not only meets but in certain criteria also exceeds the current regulatory standards. There are also other products available on the market that exceed the standards, in different ways to mifold. We have used them with our own children over the years. We therefore always encourage caregivers to use the most protective car seat available that is suitable to the child, the circumstances and the vehicle being used.

What about at the top of the size range? The hifold is designed to fit kids up to 100 pounds and 59” tall! Wowza. I don’t have a kid that big to test it with, but it gets mighty tall as you’ll see below. You’ll need to set the seat height once you place it in the car. The manual says to start with it at its highest setting, but that’s probably overkill. Just start with it higher than you think you need it, have your child hop in and then start tweaking. Your kid will need to bend his head forward to grant you access to the lever, so it might take a few tries to get the height right. I have seen many, many seat belt fit pictures of the original mifold. In about 80% of them, the lap belt fit is not one I’d be comfortable with for my own child or the kids I help as a CPST. In the remaining 20% it’s ok, but rarely in an ideal range unless the child is close to passing the “5 step test” to stop using a booster seat (around age 10-12).

mifold Comfort and mifold Sport are globally regulated so can be used when travelling anywhere in the world (apart from Australia). A RideSafer is crash tested for children starting at 3 years old. We recommend using the tether strap in addition to the seat belt with children this young to help keep the child in proper seating position throughout the drive. The general guidance for booster seat usage in the Child Passenger Safety community is at least 40lbs, at least 5 years old and mature enough to stay seated properly 100% of the time. Parents and CPSTs alike know that most children aren’t mature enough to stay seated correctly 100% of the time at age 4. Some children are ready at age 5 and many are not ready until 6 or even 7 years old. At the very least, you’ll want to know the correct width settings for your kid, which is easy enough. My petite 5.5 year old needed the narrowest widths for everything and my small 8.5 year old was on the medium widths for the seat and torso, but narrowest for the headrest.

Proposed changes to the European car seat laws do not appy to existing booster seats currently on sale in the market, including the mifold Grab-and-Go booster seat, or any existing child restraint system that is available for sale in the UK The schedule to implement new laws has been delayed again; the Department for Transport say that it will probably be later next year. The mifold Original that is sold in the US is slightly different from the version sold in the rest of the world and is only regulated for use in the US. Neither mifold Original or mifold Basic are regulated for global use so for these two products we cannot advise you to use a mifold seat in a country where it is not regulated as local law enforcement may not recognize your version of the mifold seat. Where is mifold available? mifold is manufactured in China. Our manufacturing partners are world renowned manufacturers that are ISO approved and operate at the highest level of manufacturing and quality control standards. They already manufacture child restraint products for several other well known companies. Using mifold How does the shoulder strap work?Invented from his own needs of being a parent of four, Jon Sumroy has transformed a simple idea into a successful product – mifold, the Grab-and-Go Booster Seat. The multi-award-winning booster seat has now sold over a million times worldwide and has brought a convenient and safe revolution to keeping kids safe in cars. Overall, my kids and I like the hifold fit & fold booster seat. As you can see in the photos here, we had no issue getting a safe seatbelt fit on both of them thanks to all of the adjustments.
