About this deal

I love the books written by the duo that make up Nicci French and have read their books right from the first novel The Memory Game in 1997. Their books introduced me to the world of Psychological Thrillers. Sadly, I haven't taken to the latest series (using the days of the week, with psychotherapist, Frieda Klein). In Thursday's Children, I found Frieda's character cold, humourless, cheerless - and nothing warmed me to her or the story. If a character is not particularly likeable, she has to be compelling in other ways - and I didn't find this either. Her dialogue is clipped and stilted, keeping the reader at a distance. It was hard to get involved when the reader is not particularly interested in the lead character. Sunday Morning Coming Down is the penultimate book in what has been overall a fantastic series. I haven't always liked Dr Klein with her closed off ways, but she's a character that has grown on me over time and I will miss her long hours of walking the streets of old London town. On a north London high street, a runaway vehicle crashes to a halt, but the man in the driving seat was murdered a week earlier. Maybe Tess is overprotective, but passing her daughter off to her ex and his new young wife fills her with a sense of dread. It’s not that Jason is a bad father—it just hurts to see him enjoying married life with someone else. Still, she owes it to her daughter Poppy to make this arrangement work. Sophisticated, gripping, addictive. Crime novels that stand head and shoulders above the competition.”—Sophie Hannah, bestselling author of Woman with a Secret

British television changed in 1991, when DCI Jane Tennison (steadying herself outside the door, taking a deep breath, fixing a cool expression on to her face) walked into an incident room filled with a sneering, jeering, sniggering, lewd, matey, loyal band of detectives who were almost all male: a rugby team of lads, incredulous that someone in a skirt was to take charge of a murder investigation, humiliated by having a woman boss. The drama of who killed and mutilated the female victims ran alongside the drama of a woman battling in a man’s world: how could Tennison withstand the hostility and outright bullying of her colleagues and bosses, and at the same time manage her private life? She had to be tougher than the men at work and still soft and tender at home, placating her lover, apologising to him, cooking for him, compartmentalising her world, though of course the boundaries kept crumbling and collapsing. In the lonely spaces in between, she stood in corridors, visibly collecting herself for the next fight; she smoked ravenously. She was her own battleground. I jumped into this series with this book, yes it’s the seventh book, but I have heard so many amazing things about it and I just know I’ll never have the time to start at the beginning so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to see what all the hype is about. Nicci French's sophisticated, compassionate and gripping crime novels stand head and shoulders above the competition' Sophie HannahThis fourth installment in the Frieda Klein British mystery procedural is a bit of a departure from the previous chapters.

Frieda Klein's duel with her dark nemesis is finally coming to a climax - and only one can make it out alive. A great storyline, well written and with excellent characters, I really enjoyed this book and found it interesting and intriguing. Monday, the lowest point of the week. A day of dark impulses. A day to snatch a child from the streets ...In 1987 Nicci had a son, Edgar, followed by a daughter, Anna, in 1988, but a year later her marriage to Colin Hughes broke down. The end, with again another deus-ex-machina intervention from Dean, is a huge predictable disappointment as was the identity of the culprit, which could be easily identified. As autumn leaves fall, a serial killer runs amok in the capital, playing games with the police. The death toll is rising fast, and the investigation is floundering. This prompts Frieda to return to her hometown in hopes of drawing out the rapist, but other complications arise when she visits her mother for the first time in a long while, and when Frieda makes some startling decisions regarding her personal life.

In 1989 she became acting literary editor at the New Statesman, before moving to the Observer, where she was deputy literary editor for five years, and then a feature writer and executive editor.Like most successful series, this one is full of good characters, Frieda herself is a complicated character that interacts well with other regular character such as DCI Karlson, builder Josef and of course the likeable Reuben. I am very much looking forward to her next adventure and touching base with the eclectic cast again soon! mood του βιβλίου, ίσως από την άλλη ότι ήθελα κι άλλο, λίγο επίσης ότι κάποια πράγματα νομίζω ότι δεν εξηγήθηκαν στο τέλος (πχ ποιος πήρε το βραχιολάκι, πού το βρήκε, γιατί τώρα και όχι παλιότερα), συν ότι το ποιος ήταν τελικά ο δολοφόνος και ο λόγος που διέπραξε το έγκλημα με ξενέρωσε. I believe there is one more in the Frieda Klein series to come which I will probably look up now that I've read the penultimate story but I do think you need to read at least some of the previous books to fully understand Frieda's story. A gritty heroine, a gruesome crime and a terrifying hunt for a psychotic killer, Tuesday's Gone is not to be missed by fans of psychological thrillers.
