Read our ‘Guide to Installation & Aftercare‘ to find out more about what you will need to keep your wood worktops looking great for longer.

We have a great video on our You Tube Channel all about Denibbing >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR10L68iU_E&t=2s you only need to denib between coats to reduce the grain and give a smoother finish. You also need to wipe over the surface with a damp cloth to remove any sanding dust.Worry not, it is not the end of the world, if you have not denibbed. The purpose of doing this between coats is to smooth down any raised grain or imperfections that have occurred from the first application. There may be some benefit to adhesion, when you denib, but it will be limited and the second coat should be fine. Woodleys Flexible Sanding Pads are excellent for flattening wooden surfaces or furniture prior to the application of wood finishing products or paints. Because of their flexibility and versatility, de-nibbing pads are now widely used by painters, decorators and craftsman and are often used in place of the more traditional sanding papers. Rub down the entirety of the top face and exposed side(s) of worktop, remove any dust with a clean cloth, and leave for an hour or so.

I would be happy to take a look at some photos if you would like to send some in to [email protected]. Once the worktop is completely clean, you can begin to apply Rustin’s Danish oil, or our own Worktop Express Danish Oil for Worktops. Add a layer to the top and edges paying special attention to the end grain (this tends to be more absorbent than the rest of the worktop and may require extra coats). The worktops will be perfectly sealed with oil on the top, bottom, edges and end grain. We now use HABiol Oil throughout our pre-oiling service; this product is an ingression oil and as such requires fewer coats to achieve a durable, smooth finish. Repeat the process, turning when necessary and flipping as you go, until three coats have been applied to the top, bottom and sides (6 coats to the end grain).
