About this deal

The UK-based company usually releases their Blu-ray products tied to European region coding, but their 4K versions have previously all been Region Free, which will be good news for U.S. fans of the thriller. There is no word on when exactly the release will happen, but knowing it is coming this year is probably good enough for most people, and we will now wait to discover what additional extras will accompany the new edition of the film. Jennifer Jason Leigh agreed to do the film because she wanted to work with Hauer again (they co-starred in Flesh + Blood), and loved the character of Nash because "there was a real person there". [4] Writer Eric Red had teased last year that 1986 classic The Hitcherwas finally getting a Blu-ray release, and the release was subsequently confirmed by Second Sight Films. Second Sight, the company behind the recent 4K Ultra HD release of George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, had unfortunately also revealed, however, that a 4K release would not be possible.

The film stars C. Thomas Howell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Jeffrey DeMunn, with the late Rutger Hauer delivering one of his greatest performances as the title character. Here, he joins Bartok and his mysterious delegation to raise the spirit of an ancient demon for a once-in-a-lifetime ritual. DuVal, Gary (July 29, 2002). The Nevada Filmography: Nearly 600 Works Made in the State, 1897 Through 2000. McFarland. p.87. ISBN 9780786412716– via Google Books. The Hitcher is awesome, one of my all-time favorite horror thrillers, so it’s very cool to hear that Second Sight is going to have the opportunity to restore it and make it look better than ever for their upcoming release. A release date for Second Sight’s 4K and Blu-ray hasn’t been revealed yet, but we’ll let you know when they announce their plans. Second Sight also shared some comments from The Hitcher director Robert Harmon, who provides an exciting preview of the restoration-in-progress. Harmon writes… a b Maltin, Leonard (2013). Leonard Maltin's 2014 Movie Guide. Penguin Press. pp. 625. ISBN 9780451418104. In early drafts of the script, John Ryder had been described as skeletal in nature and so actors like David Bowie, Sting, Sam Shepard, Harry Dean Stanton, and Terence Stamp were mentioned. [4] Harmon was set on casting Stamp and even carried around his picture to pitch meetings. Stamp received a copy of the script but turned down the role. Sam Elliott was offered the role but an agreement could not be reached on his salary. Michael Ironside was also considered for the role. [7] Singer mentioned Dutch actor Rutger Hauer. While in L.A. for a short visit, Hauer read the script. Even though he was looking for non-villainous roles, the script "really got a hold of me ... I thought, 'If I do one more villain, I should do this.' I couldn't refuse it." [4] The one reservation Hauer had was with the scene where the girl is torn apart and Feldman told him, "you are the bad guy and you'll be the baddest bad guy there ever was!" [4] Red mentioned to Hauer that he had Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards in mind when he wrote the part of Ryder. [8] Furthermore, Red felt that the character should have an electronic voice box. [9]

One of the most charming facets of Onyx the Fortuitous is its commitment to practical effects, specifically its use of puppets to bring demons, ghouls, and creatures to life. a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z aa ab ac Caulfield, Deborah (February 23, 1986). The Hitcher has been released on VHS, laserdisc and DVD. Its first DVD release had just the trailer as a special feature, then in 2003, Europe received a two-disc special edition DVD set, which was digitally remastered from the original negative. It also contained a bonus disc with special features that are not found anywhere else and a booklet, containing photos and a mini-essay on the film itself. We’ve searched via several film archive associations with worldwide members plus other routes. Only prints exist, and rarely.

Since its Sundance premiere, the energy surrounding the film has steadily grown with RogerEbert.com calling Onyx the Fortuitous “a handmade horror gem.”British label Second Sight Films are scheduled to release The Hitcher on remastered 4K Blu-ray in 2023 as the original camera negative film elements had been found.
